sanding chess board

G'day all,
am experiencing some problems with sanding a chess board I built grow Jarrah and tassie oak. the sanding dust from the tassie oak has gotten into the grain/pores of the Jarrah and given it white streaks.
what is the best way to fix this problem?

Hi Olas,

Once you have finished sanding, use some Methanol or Turps to clean the chess board. This should remove the dust from the Jarrah OK. Just make sure the board is dry again before you use a finish on it.

Try the turps!
The compressed air gun can also be a good way to lift the sawdust. I use this quite a bit!
Good luck with it.

Another good tool is a dish scrub pad meant for cleaning ceramic cookware. The were originally made by 3M for Corning products, but there are lots of cheaper versions now.
These pads get down into the grain and dislodge the sanding dust.
