Howdy,
Any sugestions for finishing a Red Gum office table? I'm looking for hard waring, gloss finish. Thoughts so far are FW Floor Seal, MinWax wipe on poly.
Cheers

If you have access to a spray gun, then Ameron ppg 75% lacquer is the best thing since sliced bread, and so easy to apply. Best thing is, it dries in a few minutes and ready to cut back in 20 minutes. Easily the best lacquer i have used.
Here is the distributor list

I don't have access to a spray setup.

Dan,
For legs, drawer fronts etc just FW Pollyurethane full gloss is fine, however, for table top use the FW Floor Seal. Give it a good coat using a brush, wipe mit or what ever you prefer, just keep applying it as it soaks in, when it has absorbed all it can, wipe off excess along the grain with a paper towel and leave to dry for 24hrs, sand back with 400G to remove nibs etc, wipe off sanding dust with a clean cotton cloth or blow off with a compressor.
Then apply a second and third coat 24 hrs appart normally with the 'wet edge' technique. You can sand lightly between coats if you think it is required. This will give a hard, full gloss finish.
If you are after a 'mirror' then after 24 hrs lightly sand with '0000' steel wool and apply another coat. Leave this to dry for at least a week and polish with a Car polishing cream, the finer the better. Bloody lot of work though and any blemish will stand out like the proverbial dogs b---s.
By the way, whenever applying a finish, use the finest bristle brush you can get, avoid the coarse bristled paint brushes as they leave huge brush marks.
