Controversial subjects

I have to agree with closing the speed camera post, it was getting a bit out of hand. Please don't start it up here again or I will get the boot from this forum.

There is the need for this type of forum, that is obvious by the participation. The great benefit is that there is an national participation, something that other gatherers of opinion would die for.

As far as intruding on the woodwork side of the forums they are still visited and contributed to those that use the 'Nothing At All' one, and as a matter of fact, get over to the pics and have a look at Peter36's mirror.

Now on an intirely different, yet controversial subject: What about the 15 year old boy and his teacher, and I mean not only school teacher, and the difference in sentencing on this case and the one on the bloke and his 15 year old girl/s? Anyone??

Why don't you start up a totally new forum group to vent your various social issues.

This is said purely in my self appoined role as an agitator of faecal matter. Its a fun job and I love to do it. :D

I accept that the notion of going to bed with various politicians scared me so no wonder canned it to prevent the domino effect. :D

But now that you come to mention it, it seems whenever I get on here more lately the majority of new posts are in the non specific woodworking forums, ie Nothing At All... Jokes... and how to concrete hangers or retaining walls. :rolleyes:

That is not to say I disagree but are we losing interest from the ones who have most to offer in the woodworking fraternity? A bit of fun is great and I enjoy that but a discussion on the differences between maternal and paternal pedophilia :confused: :confused: :confused: ??

Think I could keep that for the pedophiles forum :D :D :D just johin' :cool:

Still find the lure of shared knowledge in the craft - woodworking not the p word :eek: is the motivation but feel it's getting harder to find meaningful posts - no offence intended - just a personal observation :D

Dunno Jamie,

Maybe it's just that the obvious topics, eg dovetail joints, m&t joints, sharpening, to name but a few, have been covered so exhaustively that there is not much more to be said about them.

I'm not saying that we've covered every aspect of woodworking, I don't think that is possible, just that there have been a lot of topics covered on this board over the years so that it's becoming rarer for a totally new topic to arise.

In the meantime, we satisfy our forum fix by contributing to "the nothing to do with woodwork" forums.

Before posting controversial issues please Do a search and ensure it hasn't already been raised in a deleted thread. :D

Why are there more posts here instead of the woodworking forums.
1/ not everyone has an opinion on woodworking issues, and as the answers are often definitive they prefer to wait for the experts rather than give someone a bum steer.
2/ when it comes to personal opinion we are all experts :D and there is normally no definitive answer so its is hard to be wrong.

Personally I just do it to cause trouble TEE HEE :D

I do it because I feel sorry for and want to help all the people in the world who disagree with me because I know I am right and they are wrong. I just want everyone to go to bed at night secure in the knowledge that they are right-minded individuals with an intuitive feel for right and wrong.

I'll bite....

What some call double standards...others would call facts of life.

There will always be differences in the way men and women are perceived.
This is reflected in the pay scales that each can earn and the stereotypes to which we are all compared.

Like it or not...a man who has a different woman each night is a perceived as a "stud".
In the reverse....a woman who has a different man each night is perceived as a xxxx.

I believe all of us may have fantasised about older women while at school, and yet now feel selfconscious when staring at a "schoolie' on the side of the road. This is proof that even in our own minds, we would accept it as wrong if we were to make sexual advances towards a young girl.

Like most, I say good luck to the boy and believe that the embarrassment suffered by the woman is punishment enough for her. I look at her and wonder how she explains it to her husband who must be even more embarrassed.

I know that a male teacher was sentenced to prison for the "same" act....but again, I accept that.

This is not "double" standards.....just "different" standards....and a fact of life.

That's OK for those of you who don't have a day job to support your habit. I'd love to spend my days making sawdust but unfortunately no-one is silly enough to pay me to do it. The hot air is the next best option.

Ok Ok, but seeing as I'm still building my shed can I post something new about concrete slabs, dust extraction, 15 amp power points, where to put the DC and what type of lighting I need!!... Just for something new:D
