Lintel question

I need to install a 2.5 to 3.5 mt lentil in an eighty year old house which is made with rough sawn 4 x 2" hard wood. I would appreciate some guidance (links) to the best material and size to use for the job?

Yeeaaahhhh; the wall is holding up that part of the house!! It's a new opening between the living room and the redesigned kitchen (one of those step down to ones)
