Unexpected delights or acts of kindness

We have had a thread on dumping the gripes; what about the opposite?

Here's a couple of recent ones IME.

1. Last year I ordered a coarse benchstone from Stu of toolsfromjapan.com, but immediately followed up with an email to check whether it would do the job. Stu said no, recommended another which I accepted and the order was completed.

Well after that Stu sent a phial of 36 grit Silicon Carbide powder cos he'd found this really was the only way of flattening the stone specified my orig. order (and clearly I was still on his books as having one from him). This came from Japan at no charge.

2. Couple of days ago I offered to buy a Titan chisel from Col on the Marketplace subforum. The condition was no pitting on the back. He said a mate of his could drop it off and if I wasn't happy could return it no charge.

So the chisel was in the letter box yesterday and in very good condition. Thanks again Col.

There are others I could mention but this is enough from me for the moment.

I bought the other chisel from Col and he offered same deal of returning it if not happy.
He posted it before I paid and I am now waiting for it in the mail so :2tsup::2tsup: to Col.

Also to Thumbsucker, DJ and others involved in the plane blade order.

I don't drive any more and several forum members have stepped up to collect/deliver materials and tools etc. for me. I don't like asking for help; these blokes all volunteered their time and effort. One even risked life and limb to climb onto my shed roof and install a vent. I suspect one malingerer thinks he's covertly serving an apprenticeship under me...

IanW made me a fabulous back saw which I really appreciate too. I will be writing a review of it in due course.

Our illustrious leader and his band of merry men have to come in for some praise too. We all enjoy free participation here and are well looked after to boot.

3 cheers to Daniel of Carba-tec Melb (while elsewhere that retailer is taking a pasting).

He spent ages on the phone with me recently to ensure I got the right replacement bags for the dusty. Threw in some good dust extraction advice as well.

Checked that the bags and the vacuum wand could go with Auspost and gave me a discount for being a club member.

I would like thank Brett from Addictive who ordered a couple of Cambridge fountain pen kits for me. Then when I went to turn them realised I needed a "B" type mandrel and I didn't have one.

So I searched all the pen sites in AU and no one had one listed. I rang Brett and he said he had one without a morse taper that fitted in a drill chuck that I could have and sent it in the post and had it next mail day. Great service.
