Is there a way to flatten it so it's usable?

Flatten it out by rubbing it on a hard, flat, abrasive surface. Sandpaper on glass works, so I am told, but I am a primative and use a formed, concrete building block.
We call them Besser blocks over here. They are very flat, having come from a mould, quite abrasive and a good size.
Good Evening Robert,
You have hit the nail right on the head as that is the answer I was looking for, congratulations.
