Finish for MDF

Hi, under normal circumstances I hate using MDF however I am making a router table and it is perfect for a table top.

I have used pine for the legs and rails etc and 2 * 16mm MDF glued together to form the router table top, ie 32mm thick.

I have some left over Tassie Oak strips that I will put on the edge of the top etc.

My question is how would you finish MDF?

I have used it before with MDF Sealer and Painted it......don't know whether to do this or just add on some WOP etc?

Thoughts?

Maybe don't, in this case. Cover with plastic laminate instead. That's what I did with my router table.

I would do same laminate it..
Will be much harder wearing than any paint finish..
you should be able to get a hold of an offcut cheap..

I usally use epoxy resin thinned out. Soaks in real good and makes the MDF quite hard
and gives it a wood like appearance. Also toughens up the edges.
BoteCote has a special thinner for this purpose. Havn't used it yet but will when this lot runs out.
If you use epoxy be sure to sand the factory finish first so it can soak in.

Remember, if you laminate it, laminate both sides

I got my laminate for my router table from this mob. They were very reasonable.
