Finishing Hard Shellac

Hi,

I'm finally getting round to finishing my Stewart-Mac ukulele kit.

I'm finishing it with hard shellac which I got from U-Beaut. Once I've finished the coats of hard shellac, what should I do next to get a high gloss finish?

How are you applying the Hard Shellac? Brush or pad?

Word of warning Chris - Make sure you shake the Hard Shellac before decanting into a jar and stir it in the jar or whatever you decant into before each use.

The one thing that people don't realise with it is that Hard Shellac, (like all shellacs) can layer and settle out. Noticeable in most other shellacs but not in Hard or Dewaxed Shellac.

I'm thinking that EEE-UltraShine would be the thing to use for the final polish - is that right?

I used EEE recently on a hard shellac finish (my first), and it came up
U-Beautiful.

Neil, this isn't mentioned on either the bottle, or data sheet 12. Seems it should be there, if it's as importantant as you say. I certainly couldn't detect any sepparation in the bottle I used, and so didn't shake it.

So Hard Shellac and EEE-UltraShine are all that I need to get a high quality finish? I just want to check this before I put in my order.

What about Polish Reviver?

You don't need Polish Reviver unless you want to revive an old piece of furniture.

Hard Shellac and EEE may be all you need. Ultimately it all comes down to your own ability to finish the piece.

The shake and stir info is now on all labels and all new Info Sheets. Not something I ever thought about as I always shake everything before I use it and was always unable to reproduce problems some had with Hard Shellac.

Never ever occurred to me or anyone else that others wouldn't shake first. Just goes to show you shouldn't take anything for granted.
