WOODWORKING QUIZ for 15 Oct 04
Good Evening Friends,
I have a piece of mahogany that is 12/4 x 12" x 8' and I need to resaw six pieces out of it 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" x 36" and do not wish to resaw the whole board. It is too heavy and too wide to go through my bandsaw, as it will not open that wide.
What do you recommend that I do?
Respectfully,
WOODWORKING QUIZ ANSWER for 15 Oct 04
Good Evening Friends,
Hey Bruce, sorry to hear about your big toe hurting. that is one reason I wear steel toed shoes when working in the shop or handling large heavy objects.
Now for the quiz; I measured up from the end of the timber 37" and cut it off,
then set up my table saw at 1 1/2" from the blade to the fence, then raised the blade to 1 3/4" above the table and made a pass through with the blade cutting more than half way through. Then I turned the board 180º and ran it through again, which gave me a board 1 1/2 x 3". I then ran that one through to end up with two more approximately 1 1/2 x 1 1/2", I then continued to cut two more pieces and it left me with a nice piece for other projects down the road. Then I ran all pieces through the planer to the desired dimensions I wanted.
Thank you for your support.
