Good Evening Friends,
The other day I received 108 BF of 4/4 poplar and of all the boards I found three knots. One was an ingrown knot while the other two were encased, and one looked loose. All knots were close to the ends of the boards.
What action should be taken before I run them through my planer after they have acclimated to my shop for about a week?
Respectfully,
cut them off and throw them away
You should turn on the dust extractor.

Knock out the loose one.

You all have some very good advise, however it would be a shame to loose part of a good board to chop off the whole end where the knots are.
The ingrown knot will not come out when run through the planer, but the encased ones might. So rather than lose some good lumber I just drill the encased knots out, leaving the balance of the width of the board for good use.
