tung oil

I have never used tung oil before.
I was given an almost full tin. The guy who gave it to me used it for the tray on his ute, then forgot all about it.
My question is:
Can I use it on a stained spinning wheel? I think it is walnut stain, it is very dark black/brown. The surface doesn't seem to have ever been sealed.

If not, what about polyurethane?

Pure tung darkens walnut. Not unpleasant but darker.
I put it on a replica Brown Bess musket I built almost 40 years ago.
The gun has had a lot of handling and exposure to outdoor elements but is still in fine shape. Tung is a durable finish and very moisture resistant.
Do test but I believe it will suit your needs very well.

Yep! it should be okay over stain but as mentioned above, try it on a test area first just in case you don't like the finish it gives you.

It is all cleaned up now and the tung oil worked a treat.
