Hi all,first time post here and need some help.I'm wanting to give my ash body electric guitar an unusual natural finish.I have found this pic on another forum,but am not sure how this was exactly achieved.I posted the question here cos I believe it is a general finishing question.

THis effect can be achieved by using a black grainfiller over the entire body and once dried/cured the guitar is then sanded back all over. In essence what happens is the sections of grain that are slightly raised and not accepting as much grainfill into the grain and pores will be sanded out and pretty much back to normal colour and the rest remains darker. A typical black and sand technique.

i doubt that wood is ash but anyway you could try a watered down batch of timbermate - comes in dark colours - better seal the wood before applying though
what about japan black then sanded?? nice and tar like
You could but wouldn't have the benefit of grainfilling at the same time.
Hi all,just a few snaps of the results of my guitar body that I attempted to refinish.I posted a question a couple of weeks ago regarding a certain finish I was looking for,and thanks to oz tradie and everyone else who gave me advice,I sort of managed it for a first attempt.Anyway basically a black and sand technique,and the pics were taken just after I applied 2 coats of Danish oil.I just had the neck and trem sitting in place for a view of how it will look when completed.I'm intending to finish the body with a satin poly spray to give a bit of protection.Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated.:2tsup:
