Hmm, Piece of cornice falls out, how to fix?

Heard a noise in the garage last night and find a piece of cornice has fallen off. I haven't touched it, there are no signs of the brickwork moving or cracking and no moisture issues.

So how can I fix it. Can I stick the original piece in and just use polyfilly to patch it up? What should be used to stick it back?
