Direction of Merbau Planks

Hi All,

Would like advise on what direction the timber decking should be laid. I have a long deck which is about 2.7 meters wide and 15 meters long. Is it personal preference on what direction the deck is laid or is there a common practice to it.

I prefer to lay them width ways which is be perpendicular to the house rather than long ways which is parrallel.

I have seen alot of decking which is laid long ways with the house so was wondering if this is common practice.
