To remove or not to remove - that is the question...

One of the internal walls in my house comes to an end in the passageway, to allow access to the lounge room. So it is free standing. I will be extending that wall down to the end of the passageway, and putting a door in, then dividing the living room with another wall.

This freestanding wall end has the typical metal mesh corner strips, to prevent damage as people walk by. These make the end of the wall about 18 mm wider than the rest of the same wall, though you don’t notice it unless you measure. If I just extend the wall and plaster over the join, I’m worried people might see a ‘bulge’ when looking down the wall later.

In these situations would a plasterer normally rip the metal corner strips out (a pretty messy business I’m guessing), or would they just try and disguise the ‘bulge’ by filling a greater area? If they usually don’t remove the strips then I won’t either. If they always do, then I better, too.
