how do I fill a ding after finishing?

Hi,
I dinted a recently finished job (don't ask) using hard shellac. The finish held and there is no break through to wood.

However it is too deep to sand out.

Can I sort of drop fill the ding - it's quite deep successfully?

Shouls I use 'clear' hard shellac or add dye as was used in the original process?

Allow a full month for the finish to cure. Then put wet cloth 2 to 3 layers thick over the ding then apply heat via the pointy end of a hot iron. This should swell up the compressed timber of the ding and bring it back to pretty much the way it was.

Leaving it a month before doing this should ensure the Hard Shellac has fully cross linked and should be able to fully withstand the heat and moisture.

Other option is to leave it as it is and make up a really good story about how it happened. It then becomes part of the patina (history) of the piece.
