19mm T&G Jarrah Flooring....bearers & joists

I am replacing a couple of floors in an old Perth home and have found jarrah flooring (new). I am interested in the Lysaght Quicka floor steel bearers & joists but do I have to use timber joists to enable the floor to be nailed ?

If so can anybody help me decide if its to be new or second timber?

Oh yes there is more!

If I am to use timber joists either new or salvaged any tips on where to buy in Perth , I feel like fair game walking into timber or salvage yards and my only excuse is ignorance!

I doubt you can nail into steel floor joists - a flooring screw-gun is probably whats needed...... just wondering why you have to replace existing bearers and joists? Are the old ones gone or rotted? Either way, if you wanna replace them, you have a pretty wide choice of materials, though probably the cheapest/easiest would be radiata pine, though Perth does have a bunch of salvage yards, I cant remember where..... others will know though and offer info I am sure .... If you havent bought the Jarrah flooring just yet, think about whether you want nails to be visible or not - secret-nailing can look nice especially on Jarrah.... if you do want that - then you will have to ask for secret-nail-profile flooring .... which has a different toungue and groove profile. Apols if you know all this already ..... just want to make sure

If you want to use steel joists and T&G floors you can fix rips of 25mm ply to the top of the steel and secret nail into it (use polurethane adhesive as well). Alternatively you can screw timber onto the side of the joist (flush with the top) and fix to it.

What time frame are you working to with replacing the floors.
The reason im asking is that i am do a renovation of my place and apparently i have to use only stamped timber, or so the builder says anyway.
I am expect work to start in the next month or so.
The current joist and bearers are jarrah, approx 20 - 30 years old and in pretty good condition from what i can see.

If your intersted , let me know.

Hey Seripi 1 , I thought the response to the offer of jarrah would maybe get the "easties " jealous. I am no expert but in the running around after jarrah flooring I have got some idea of whats available and where etc so if anyone is thinking of a jarrah floor I can maybe save a little searching.

heya perthite - how did/is the flooring job go/going?

if done, what did you finish it with and how did you end up nailing it...... and if nnot finished yet - I totally understand, believe me!
