Fibre cement sheet for spa bath top

Is it best to use a sheet of 15mm fibre cement sheet as a top for a spa bath hob.and then cut out a hole for the spa. The spa is oval shaped and is going in one end of a rectangle room. I am getting conflicting reports from tilers. One says to brick up completely another use cement sheet.
