replacing concealed hinge in chipboard

the job -

replacing self closing action concealed hinges on chipboard kitchen cabinet.

make - prestige (salice) 165 degree opening / clip-on

should have been a straight forward removal of old broken hinges and replace with new.
Problem is the screw holes for the new hinge cup don't match the old. (Thanks manufacturer !!:~) One hole is tantilisingly close.

Previous experience has made me wary of chipboard. I would not like to create a larger screw hole that will grip nothing. I'm thinking of filling the old screw holes with some form of hardener before attaching the new hinge cups.
