Hi for 'Where the Outback Meets the Sea', SA

Well ‘Where the Outback Meets the Sea’ sounds a lot better than 300Km from Gepps Cross, Adelaide and it is the local councils catch cry..

I can across this place looking for details for commercial timber sizes for maranti and the horror of horrors GMC spares.
Looks like I will have a few months just trying t find my way about here.

Anyway as far as wood working goes I have only done the basic as required by SWMBO, ie fix this, fix that, isn’t finished yet.:((
I will admit to building my own chair from nice timber form a few pallets. Never realised how much work was involved in dressing up each plank till I started. Glue is another big story as well. Lots of experimentation there.
Well chair got finished and now has pride of place at the table. It is more comfortable than the standard dining table chair anyway, (self praise):U

Now I am starting a new experiment dining table.

They are on my puter but I can not post them from there.
The back rest is a nice bit of lamination using 2mm thick oregon. Actually that was the thickest I could use and still get a useful curve.

Proof!!

Base chair. Glued and pre drilled for solid brass screws and brass connector bolts. The bolts are for the legs to help the glue bind the laminates together. https://www.woodworkforums.com/pictur...pictureid=2950

This was to be the back rest. It took about 3 months to get it this far. In the end the timber did not hold sufficient curve to be much use. Also all the wetting diluted the colour.

View of the final back rest. It is made of 5 layers of Oregon each 2mm thick. On the front there are little blocks of deep red hard wood. There sort of also formed the formwork for the laminations.
Part of the arm rest is in the lower foreground. This is an old scrap piece of Oregon and I tried to maintain the orange/black colouring.

OK it is not perfect but it is my first piece.
(Yes the legs are vertical and square and yes the picture seems to make things look as if the legs splay outward from the ground up. They don’t, cheap camera and rotten photographer.)

What do you mean experiment dining table. O I get it. It is where you experiment. :)

:2tsup: Beaut chair. (Gee! Only second post and your posting pics. Very advanced. Took me longer to get use to the 'puter than the wood work. :doh: ) Looking for ward to the table. Will that be recycled pallet wood too? We have a Pallet Challenge last year. Many and varied creations. :cool:

No the whole chair thing was to avoid SWMBO's list of little jobs..:D

Now SWMBO wants a new dining table and more chairs. So the whole thing was a serious mistake on my part.
The table is an experiment in itself. The planks are laid cross wise not length wise. It is roughly 6 ft by 4 ft. Then somehow, some where I get to make the base.

Well most of it will be built from pre used oregon. but there will be new timber in it as well. That timber has been hanging about the back yard for 10+ years.

Att is a pic of the table top in its jig. Each plank of oregon is seperated by a small strip of maranti and to provide a bigger break of colour I put in two planks of pine.
The pic is the underside. There are some faint stringlines providing the outline.
It is all an experiment of patients :D
I am gluing it wth good old 24 hr Araldite.

This could be a very interesting table.

Here is something that I do and have to do if I am to get any time to myself. I create a list with everything that needs to be done. Start with one item and when it is done get onto the next item. I call it Hypoactive Mode.

Had a friend come from Brissy for a couple of days. I picked him up and we jumped from one thing to another. My list had eight things to complete, two items on the list was to Pick up Friend and Drop off Friend. The other six items in between he tagged along. Very busy day.

The following day he only came with me for only two items on my list, Pick up Friend and Drop off Friend in the City. :D

apparently the little jobs are still around, but I have no idea what are.:U

She suggested a board in MY shed to write up the list, but since I don't have a list I can not make the board as that is on the list.. Sound like the TV program.

Well the table so far will not have 4 legs as such but 2 post. So the base will be like 2 H frames. one lying flat on the ground the other the upright.

Not too sure how it all goes together as I only have the odd sketch on my idea.
