plastering internal corner new gyprock to plastered rendor ?

Currently renovating 130 year old moneypit and have reached the stage of learning how to plaster.I have constructed new studed walls in front of old mud brick ones which were not worth repairing beyond the point of being structualy sound.My problem is I have butted up gyprock to a petruding fire place which has been previously rendered and plastered thus creating an internal corner. Not sure if it is a good idea to tape and plaster this corner and cross my fingers or use something like a piece of quad stuck only to the rendor to hide any potential future cracks.All ideas would be greatly apreciated .
