Security check to camera 7

Greetings,

Back on the Bunnings bash again. I spend quite a bit of time in Bunnings, for professional reasons of course. One day I'll finish a job without having to go off half way through to get something I need :mad: .

I frequently hear the background music interrupted with something like "Security check to camera 7", followed a few seconds later by "Security acknowleged" or "Security on the way" (different voice of course).

The thing is, even though I've heard this dozens of times I've never once seen any sign of a security person heading anywhere. I'm sure that I could tell the difference as I've never seen a Bunnings staff member move faster than a snail on valium and if security was on the way to sector 6, surely they would move at a brisk pace at least.

Am I being had ? Is this just a trick to make me think that their security is right on the ball or do they genuinely average 147 security incidents a day ?

One day while you are bored & doing nothing..... see if you can find camera 7.

Myers are the only store that I have seen that have a live person watching security monitors....
If they spot something, they don't announce it over the intercom.
A call goes to some ugly with a little radio & he flies in formation with
the 'suspect' back to the security office while the cops are coming &
the other shoppers are none the wiser.

last time I was back in the uk went to the main shopping strip in the town I used to live in.

Waiting to pay at the till I heard a voice over an intercom saying "she's leaving WH Smiths and heading towards Woolworths followed by a description of some miscreant".

The town invested heavily in security cameras so I'm not sure whether this was the local shops doing their own security or whether someone watching a central monitor was alerting the shops but I can imagine that once a thief was spotted he/she wouldn't manage to steal much from the next shop visited!!!

That's been going on for years. I worked a Coles in the 1970's and we used to routinely have announcements over the store speakers like "security to section 4 please." It meant nothing but is designed to put the potential shop-lifters on guard. If people were honest, it wouldn't be necessary but unfortunately that isn't the case.

When I worked at Woolies, the announcement was usually "Operator 20" to wherever, and was an instruction for the in-store security to move in and do their stuff.

The security folks back then were usually ladies, and looked just like an average shopper, but had a built-in but hidden "nasty" setting on their personalities, which was triggered by the call for "Operator 20".

BTW when I worked retail it was variously (depending on the store) code (service 99, etc), or jumping the counter yelling 'hey you'.

Code 5 in Aisle 6 used to mean a good looking bird in said aisle, which would bring all the lads down quick smart...

Looks like they either have a dead obvious 'deterent' or a covert 'cop'...

As a deterent, the newer Woolies at Smithfield have a camera on the inwards
gate linked directly to a monitor hung about the same gate so you can check
your hair/lippy/fly before you get your real picture taken.

Here in Cairns the code word while cruising 'The Esplanard' is 'barramundi'

I don't have any idea where it came from 'cos barra don't have feathers, or hooters.
