Steel Or Wood Stumps

Hello,
I am wanting to extend my house which is about 40 years old on wood stumps wood framing & trusses and about 1 km from the beach, I was going to extend using the duragal system of steel stumps & flooring but have been told that i am too close to the beach for steel - is this true and if so should i use stteel stumps & wood flooring with steel wall frames & steel roof trusses - any ideas would be very helpful
