This quote in another thread bought back lots of memories of mad stuff I did when I was younger.

When I was 17 I was having an argument with a girlfriend on the phone whilst at work. Eventually she said "I'm going to put the phone down" I warned her not to which was quickly followed by the dial tone. I went to my boss and told him my girlfriends mother had just called to tell me my girlfriend had fainted at work and been taken to hospital and asked if I could have the rest of the day off. My boss was very concerned and agreed I should go immediately.

I didn't have a car at the time so took the 15 minute bus ride home got changed, went to my Dads shed and got a hammer and then walked 15 minutes to where my girlfriend worked. She was older than me and had a VW Golf Cabriolet (Convertible). As I walked into the car park at her office she saw me out of the window as I withdrew the hammer and smashed both of her headlights and then calmly walked away. It felt great but I had no idea how much noise headlights make when you hit them with a hammer (VERY loud).

I heard her scream my name as I walked off down the street but ignored her and carried on walking. Suddenly I heard high pitched revving and turned to see the VW mount the kerb and coming hurtling towards me, I managed to dive into someones front garden before she ran me down.

I made it home in one piece and we kissed and made up a week later...ahhhh young love, what a nutter I was back then...only dream about doing that sort of thing now that I'm a responsible adult..:rolleyes:

Not in your league HH but the reference was to the things I used to do in cars when I first started driving.

My parents let me take their car, a Datsun 240K, to school. My mate had a Datsun 120Y with a triple barrel carby (why?). His house was in the next town and it was a 30km drive to school. He used to sit on the side of the road waiting for me to come along and then it would be on. Overtaking on blind corners, 140kmph down the straights, passing the school buses 2 or 3 at a time. I nearly always beat him because the 240K was faster in a straight line and there were some really good straights leading up to the school. It's a wonder we both made it through alive. There were plenty of near misses. Certainly got the adrenalin going in the morning. Probably explains why I didn't pay attention in class the last year of school.

Does the thought of doing it scare the bejesus out of you now ? :p

I raise a sweat if I get over 100km now 'cause I've been pulled over too many times.

What really chills me to the bone is the thought of something I did while whitewater rafting about 10 years ago.

The guide took us to this spot where you walked out onto a rock just next to a small fall. There's a spot about 2 feet diameter in the water where it looks like the water in a washing machine. He tells me to jump into that spot, which I do. Next thing, I'm in an underwater tornado, which sucks me down to the bottom of the river, bumping along the bed, and drags me down stream for about 15 metres. You cannot fight it and there's no way of getting out. You just have to wait until it carries you down stream where it drops off and you can finally get to the surface.

The problem with doing these things is that sometimes there are dead trees in the bottom of the river.

He took a couple of American tourists down there and got them to do it. The husband goes first and as soon as his head pops up and he can get his breath back, he shouts to his wife "DON'T DO IT!!!". That became our catch-cry for the rest of the trip.

No , it's not something I'm proud of just something I did when I was young and foolish. The nick refers to my soccer preference. I support a club called West Ham United. When they were founded in 1895 they were known as Thames Ironworks FC and had crossed hammers as there symbol as per the current crest below.

Back in the mid 60's when I was an apprentice tech with the ABC we had to fix a transmission problem on top of the towers on the top of Mt Wellington in Hobart.
It was a touch windy and the sway at the top of the tower was something like about 25'.
At the time I thought this was great hence my current disrespect for heights......providing it is not beyond the third rung on a ladder.
The only other thing that got me a smack in the ear was more recent, went on a fishing trip with a mate, set up camp in the Buckland Valley and later in the evening a couple of single young ladies arrived.
Now, my mate was recently divorced and sniffing around anything wearing a skirt, me, not really interested, too many problems down the track.
The girls talked to me when the other bloke went to get something and asked if we were brothers, I said no, he was my gay lover.
He heard this and came over and decked me.
No score for Mick thsat weekend, and he still talks to me :D
