Panel attachment

This a question (maybe for arms)?:)

Attached is plan view of a section of kitchen I am about to begin.

It is a set of tall cabs, in HMR melamine, (2 x pantry cabs, and a tower with 3 drawers, microwave cavity, and top cupboard. Doors will be frame-and-panel in silky oak, and end panels SO veneer particleboard.

I would like to take advantage of the angled passage wall, to include a triangular cab, with glass doors, for glasses and liquor. As the inside is visible, I would be constructing out of SO veneer particleboard.

My question concerns the areas circled in red; the returns at front and back, where door would be mounted.
These would be of solid timber, and attached to cab side and back.

I can see 2 ways of doing this:
Screw from blind side of PB panel, and apply veneer strip to cover exposed PB edge.

or

Overlay over (shortened) PB panel, and fix with internal cleats.

Which would be preferred? Or is there another way to do this?
