G'day all, my name is Neville and I am in SA live in "the Hills" and am 55. To cut a long story short, I was brought up in a woodworking/cabinet making family. My father worked for Durden for many years. I used to have a lot of gear until a messy divorce 14 years ago.

Well the last 5 years has been one major health issue after another until 2 years ago I contracted Viral Encephalitis. Despite the inevitable brain injury, I have recovered well.

As part of my reahb I have decided to get back into wood and metal working and have been gathering equipment where I can find it, only to find out that I can't really remember how to use it, due to the encephalitis. I am trying to teach myself with limited success. At the moment I am trying to set up a workshop. It is a really slow process. I keep having to re-do things again and again.

I am hoping, once it is set up, to be able to help other brain injured people get higher levels of function and creativity.

Recently I managed to pick up a Toolmac woodlathe for a very reasonable price. The problem I have is that I cannot work out whether the main thread is 1" x 10:1 or 1" x 8:1.

Can anyone help me with this? The model number is 87-531592 and the year is 1996.

Regards

Neville

Hi Nev, welcome to the forum.

The first place I'd be looking for any info on that lathe would be Gasweld. They should be able to supply info on this machine as they sell Toolmac gear.

Hi Guys and thank you for your help and guidance. The solution has been found! The ToolMac Lathe is the precursor to the Toolex 900mm lathe. The main thing that has changed is that they have changed the thread from 1" x 10:1 to 1"x 8:1 in the toolex. The Toolmac is 10:1 imperial thread with a No 2 Morse taper, 6 speed, geared head which will rotate 90 Deg.

Thanks for all of your help :U

Nev - Welcome to the forum and am glad that you have decided to get back out in the shop. VE must have been a tough go for ya.

That you are setting up to help others that have suffered some loss of functionality is highly laudable. If there were more like you out there doing something the world would be a better place.

You have us thinking about how we can give back thru the wood world... disadvantaged kids maybe. We shall see.

Personal Point of Interest: The very 1st beer that I ever consumed in Oz - L.A. ex-pat here - was at the Pump House. Not a bad place to live where you are.

Keep at it and let us know how you are progressing.

Cheers,
Riggsy
