View Full Version : Men and their sheds

Found this in the paper today and thought I would post it here. Although I don't think its entirely accurate as we have a large number of ladies who also enjoy time in their sheds.:2tsup::2tsup:

ITS official: Men are wed to their sheds. Research shows that men aged between 30 and 76 will spend three and a half years tinkering in their shed or garage.
In the poll of 2000 men, about 40 per cent say they claim to be doing DIY projects but are just relaxing or having a cigarette on the sly.
And about a third of those surveyed say that the shed is the only place they can go to unwind.
.
DIY forum www.cosyhomesonline.com (http://www.cosyhomesonline.com) spokeswoman Sylvia Marshall of the group behind the survey said: “The findings show how obsessed men are with their sheds – often using them to escape the pressures of work or family life.
“Like a woman’s handbag – a shed is full of personal things which no one else should touch

Hey There,

When they come for the Survey I was in the Shed and missed out:hahaha::hahaha:, As the Wizened said, there must a lot of blokes out there who don't pull their weight. I actually know a couple of Blokes who don't have sheds :o, They think I'm spoilt, I think I'm bloody lucky.:2tsup::2tsup:

Someone should send Sylvia Marshall a copy of The Code of Practice (http://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?t=33205)... :D

(I believe the last version in Post #412 is the last revision? :?)

Silly Woman! I would be pleased if someone could explain how this minor data could be twisted to show that blokes are "obsessed".
IMHO this is aload of excreta del torro.

I wasn't asked my opinion or for any definitive information so here it is:

Do a Skew! Send 'em the Code of Practice.:q:q:q

I won't mention my inclination to misogonistic thoughts.:D:D:D

well I have several problems with this

In the poll of 2000 men, about 40 per cent say they claim to be doing DIY projects but are just relaxing or having a cigarette on the sly. is this just slack or is it permitted within the code and is 40% an adnormally high or low percentage of slackers
And about a third of those surveyed say that the shed is the only place they can go to unwind. only a third?

DIY forum www.cosyhomesonline.com (http://www.cosyhomesonline.com) spokeswoman Sylvia Marshall of the group behind the survey said: “The findings show how obsessed men are with their sheds – often using them to escape the pressures of work or family life. obsessed??
only a woman would say that
a bloke would say "the findings show how important sheds are to men and their health"
“ ... a shed is full of personal things which no one else should touch" spot on!

I'm in the shed on average 8 hours a day, except Sundays which would be about 3 hours, thus giving me about 7.5 hours a day.

I'd reckon I'm pulling my weight. :U

What I do in those 7.5 hour days doesn't mean I get much done after leaning and thinking, working out what I'm doing, stuffing up what I'm doing and then trying to fix up what I've stuffed up. On an average day I get something done, but bring just how much into the equation and it's a whole different matter.

It's nice to know some things are still sacred but what keeps you out of the shed on Sunday? :D

Fair dinkum....if only I could pull that much shed time a day!! How do you do it Waldo?? Yes I would say you pull your weight in the shed time department! I'm extremely lucky to get 30mins-1hr in the afternoon after work and that is sporadic at best.

Cheers,

Will

Truth be told I work from home and the office is in the shed, but it's only a door that separates me from the what I should be doing and what I want to be doing. I do what I shouldn't and don't do what I should do. :U

Ah I see! Well that's definitely a prime situation to get in a couple of 'extra' shed hours! good job that one is! haha

Yeah I work in a shed 5 days a week. Unfortunately its not my own, get shed envy every time I walk in the door. The garage at home is pretty crowded by the time one put 2 cars in it.

All is not lost however. Can do bodgies at work after hours and theres plenty of room to store my tandem trailer.:2tsup:

I reckon 3.5 years in a shed is time better spent, than half a life time telling porkies in front of a mirror?????... :oo: :D.
