You have been very quiet since coming back from SA has Hockey taken over wood turning.??

Did you get the licence and auto or is it female form thats distracted you, shifts at Macca's

umm, the main reasons are school, hockey and work taking up all my time. i cannot believe how busy my life has gotten.

before SA, i used to spend at least an hour each day reading the forums but during the last 2 months i've only logged on 5 or 6 times. because i started yr 12 at the start of the 4th term, the teachers wanted us to do huge amounts of homework and of course, maccas want me to work alot more because its getting really busy etc etc. in october / november hockey took 6 w/e's in a row off me due to state championships (various age groups) plus i've already started pre season training for next winter because i want to make the NSW 18's team next year (2010) and hopefully push for a 1st grade spot in sydney (i dont expect this to happen, my clubs 1st grade team is rather good!!! i'm currently in 2nd grade)

...i know it doesnt sound like a lot but it is!!!

but its the holidays now so i shud be able to get on here a bit more and hopefully make some more wood dust lol. i think i made <30 pens this year and 1 maybe 2 bowls???? not alot ay. so my holidays will be work, hockey, fitness, HOMEWORK (but its the holidays:( ) and hopefully some wood.

i actually have lost some interest in wood work but i think that has been a thing i have forced my self to do so i had more time to do my homework and other stuff during yr 11 (and now yr12). these forums took too much of my time so i had to try and give em away for a couple of months. it worked! i got most of my homework done and i got to sleep at reasonable hours at night. woodwork will probably take a big step backwards for me next yr because of the HSC but in my gap year (2010), i hopefully will be able to pick it back up, then i will probably have to give it up when i move out of home to go to uni (probably UNSW).

HSC well it will all be in your hands make time for you and what you need to relax especially if its wood time :2tsup:
Just think of it as study for Physics, Chemistry, English (just so you get the swear words correct) :p Maths put your mind to it and you'll see it all.

Gap year :roll: maybe joining the new gap year army recruits or OS 18 to 35 tours nah Hockey Hockey Hockey

UNI years well enough forumites in Sydney and NC isn't far away and then there is SWWS's

Maybe you could start a UNI woodies group :;

ray, i have looked into the ADF gap year and have almost ruled it out completely, i will probably just get a job at a winery or something and hopefully get 20K or more that year so i can get myself a decent car and a bit of extra money to help get me through uni (i will probably work at a bar or maccas or something during uni).

with the school work, i didnt do too bad this year really...BUT I am capable of more. i think i am capable of >85 UAI and my teachers agree. i downloaded a UAI calculator (based on 2006 hsc) and atm i am only getting 76 UAI so i should pick that up ( i dont need to because i only need 72 but why should i settle for that when i can get more?)

I think you have your priorities about right.

Woodwork is something that will still be there when you have finished with the things that you can only do when you are your age - HSC, uni, tough sports like hockey and (hardest of all) chasing girls. Devote your energies to these now.

Keep reading about woodwork, and every now and then, keep your hand in on the lathe (a word from experience, gifts that you make yourself (eg bowls and pens) go over really well with certain young women (PS they won't tell you and they may even poke fun at you a little at the time, but the fact that you made something yourself for them actually counts, just have patience)).

But keep in touch and don't get rid of your tools or your wood. You will get back to it and it will be a major advantage if you don't have to spend the money that you were saving as a deposit on a house to buy the tools that you have now!

i think so:)

i will keep all the tools and stuff when i go to uni because i will use them again one day...over the next year, i will probably just make a few pens and stuff as presents when ever mum or grandad or who ever needs one made, or me lol.

Yep, I reckon you have it pretty well sorted.
Going on my daughters' experience, it helps to keep up your interest in sport and also a job while preparing for your HSC, as long as you are well organised, as you seem to be.
