View Full Version : Sapwood on Cherry

I'm making a table out of cherry that I am going to finish with boiled linseed oil.

There are some light colored sapwood areas that I would like to blend better with the rest of the piece, without spoiling the natural look.

Is there a good way of doing this?

If I leave them will they blend in over time or stand out more?

Thanks for any advice :)

Hi Glen

Why hide it? I think sapwood can be attractive. Here I arranged it to be a feature ..

I don't believe that the sapwood will darken over time. The trouble is that the remainder will, so tinting/dyeing the sapwood will have unpredictable results.

Nice table :2tsup:.

In my case it is running down the legs, half each leg is sapwood.although some of it will go when I taper the legs. It would be nice if I could soften it a bit, but if not it will add character.
