Organoil substitute for interior sculpture?

Im out western Queensland and Ive run out of Organoil! :doh:
Closest sho that sells it is 100kms away:~
Always a sad predicament.......

What can I use that as a close substitute for the wonderfull finish that Organoil 'Clear Finishing Oil' gives?
Any ideas?
Danish oil?

Where in Western Qld are you? ( I grew up in Longreach)

Do you have a hardware store or a paint place nearby?

Rustins make a range of Wood Oils.

Penatrol also make a Wood Oil & a timber treatment for painted surfaces that comes in a white tin with red writing on it... it says something about making paint stick.
I have used that to finish turned pieces with & it works fine. :2tsup:

If you can get to a hardware store that stocks a range of paint & finishes, you may be able to buy the components to make your own Danish Oil.
There are heaps of recipes for it on the net & a few were mention on here in the last week or so.

Thanks for the reply. :) I'm in Mitchell at the moment. Have been for about a year.
The hardware store is fairly basic but they do have some oils. All turps based by the smell of them.....not what I was looking for....but desperate times call for desperate measures. :cool:
Will do a search for the Danish Oil recipes as I have a few bits and pieces and might be able to concoct some desireable substance........:2tsup:
Rang Bunnings to try for a postit job, but to no avail. Im amazed how much its gone up the organoil...around $37 for 1 litre. I remember buying it off a woodturner a few years ago who bought bulk for $8 a litre...I should have stocked up!
Ah well...lets see what this danish oil can do for me.

Most of the non-turps type oils use Orange Oil as the thinner/dryer (if you can call it that)

I tried one a while back that was made from a mixture of Macadamia oil & Orange Oil.
I doesn't really set hard & it isn't shiny.

Try calling 0407 488 939 Ask for Ernie and say Neil from U-Beaut said to call. Tell him your from Woodwork Forums and Neil said you'd send me what I want immediately or cop a heap of flack on the forums for being so slack.

Should have it within a couple of days of the call.

Then wink at him...... He'll see it.

So thats why organoil has the citrus smell.

Did some more googling after Cliffs advice and came up with this site.
