View Full Version : Spray Finishing

Got a compressor, considering buying a gun to spray some projects. I have Neil's book, but a sprayed finish seems a better choice for some of the things I build. Couple questions:

1. Type of gun to buy?
I have been pointed towards a Star 770 touch up gun - won't be doing large projects and it's small, decent quality I'm told & easy to handle. Any comments/other recommendations?

2. Finish to use?
Will a thinned poly work OK? What sort of mix? Does Feast Watson satin spray OK? Any better options readily available?

Gooday. The Star is a good gun, it is a copy of the Awata.

Do not set your pressures too high, they spray best at about 40PSI. with the material thinned to correct viscosity.

I use Wattyl Isogard pre cat lacquer but it is only available in 20 litre drums now. Mirrortone have some good precats as well.

Practise is the key word (ain't it always http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/biggrin.gif).
Hope this helps a little.
