harro

does anyone know where i can get a relatively cheap speed camera?

i've googled and got awesome looking machines but they're all $200 plus and i cant justify any more than $100 for the amount of times i will use it.

the best option i have found so far is to buy from america but the moment i ask mum she will say no. she doesnt like buying from OS for some reason...something about warranties and postage:rolleyes:

matchbox or hot wheels or something like that have a cheap one. has any one got one???? how do they go ( i'm about to go look for reviews ) this seems like any economical option right now.

other than that, i cant think of anything else so any ideas?

cheers

I read a couple of reviews of the Hot Wheels gun and they were very impressed with the accuracy of such a cheap item.

I'm sure one did a comparison with a police radar gun, and wondered why our tax money was being wasted:rolleyes:

Andrew

A real speed camera is way out of any sane person's budget - a few years ago the camera with lense cost the NSW Govt $30,000 EACH, that is just the bit that takes the picture.

The speed detector is relatively cheap, which is why they still employ cops to sit there and write tickets. The Hot Wheels device is good enough for (real) cars, but I don't think the beam has the resolution for ball speeds.

There are heaps of speed cameras sitting around on the side of the roads. All you need is a hack saw. :;

Yep, nitro RC. Its runs on a blend of Nitromethane and methanol. Battery's to drive the steering and throttle servos.

if you were measuring how fast you can throw, it wouldnt work.

you have to throw over 10km/h and you've got a custard arm:D:p

btw...what were you measuring.

anyway. the radar gun works well. got it the other day and tried it out during indoor hockey training. it picked up the ball if it was coming directly towards me or at a slight angle.. but i couldnt focuss it if the ball was travelling away from me. i guess i just have to practise.

So what sort of speeds were you getting Stirlo?

ss_11000
9th January 2008, 12:35 PM
i actually didnt get 'clocked'...because it was NSW traing ( the day before nationals ) i only got a short chance to try it while we were mucking around before training started, and i wanted to make sure it worked and how often it picks up the ball and all that sort of stuff. before i knew it, training had started and yeah.

GPS ( navman ) displays your speed in your car. so what i was doing on the way to wollongong was pointing the camera at signs on the roads and i got the exact same speed as navman 99% of the time so i know its pretty accurate.

the next chance i think i will get to play with my new toy will be the start of next month.

but going off my friends speeds i think i will be able to drag flick a ball in indoor hockey approximately 90 - 100km/h...i am going to try to get to hockey or even just out to a park somewhere and see how fast i can throw, i'm predicting a 120km/h+ in that category with a baseball.

Stirlo, you could also come for a trip to Canberra and check out Questacon. Its a hands on science gallery and one of their exhibits is throwing a ball speed. You only get to throw a tennis ball but I got that baby to clock at 114kmh (might try to sneak in a baseball next time:rolleyes:)

good throw.

at the AIS, i mangaged to chuck a tennins ball 106km/h. and i was 11 then but my arm isnt that much better. but then in the same week, i could only throw 98 at questacon.

questacon is always on my to do list in canberra, but everytime i'm there, i never have time because i'm only ever there for hockey.( does anyone elses life revolve around a sport? ). only 4 months till i can get my L's so i think a nice drive to canberra will rack up a nice 12 or so hours ( return at 80km/hr )

I am a Physical Trainer in the Navy... hell yeah my life revolves around sport:2tsup::2tsup:. Good luck with the license in 4 months, make sure you drop into Bungendore (its only a small detour) and check out the wood gallery... some awesome work in there.
