I would just like to thank this new member for offering to give up his time to come and help me on my property after the recent mini cyclone that ripped through this area on sunday night. I don't know Barry from a bar of soap but he private messaged me and offered his time to help us clean up.
What a wonderful gesture, It make me proud to be here in Australia with such wonderful people. Thanks Barry you are a great guy.

Yep. Good onya BazzaDLB.
Only last summer, We had a storm go through here, A new family fron the City, moved in 3 doors down the week before. The storm dropped a Spotted Gum on their roof. 3 of us showed up with Chainsaws and 4WDs and tarps and started to cut it up. They couldn't believe that we came to help "strangers".
Country people. Ya gotta love em, Eh?

Hi all,
Appreciate all the good responses.
We were on the receiving end of a natural disaster (Cyclone Althea in Townsville) many moons ago and were swamped by folks we did not know with offers of assistance.
I had just arrived back to Australia from Vietnam and knew nobody.
My wife had just been discharged from the Townsville General Maternity Hospital (luckily as it was partly demolished in the cyclone) so it was a bit of a traumatic time for us.
People just chipped in and looked after each other.
I guess I always remember how it was for us and knowing that a little help can make a big difference to how somebody pulls through I've made the effort to assist where possible.

I have not heard or seen any news re the cyclone but its nice to hear offers of help being made to fellow members.
Janet & I were on the receiving end of a castrophe last year and many Australians and forum members went all the way top help us.

Hi Woody,
Althea struck Townsville on Christmas Eve 1971.
About 90% of houses in the city were damaged in some form and something like $50 million of damage in '71 values.
As I said many moons ago but some things we don't forget.

Goodonya BazzaDLB.:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:
Whilst Wallan is a long way from Munruben our
thoughts were with John and I had conveyed
them by PM to him.
Great to see you were in a better position to
assist on behalf of we Forumites in Victoria.
Allan
