According to the blurb: Transint Dyes are a solution of metal-complex dyes in a special solvent that offers the finisher many unique options in applying the colors.

Also according to blurb they can be mixed with shellac, alcohol, water and many other mediums.

Sounds a lot like universal tinter but looks more translucent from what I can see of it. Would like to try some out as it could add a whole new dimension to colouring, dying and staining.

To my knowledge it isn't available here and I don't know of a substitute other than universal tinter which can be used in much the same way but tends to be a little on the muddy side in some colours.

Thanks Neil :( unfortunately I have to leave the 3 bottles of it (3 different colours about $100 worth) here in the USA as the transport company won't ship it. It is nice stuff to use too. Oh well I suppose my woodworking friend up the road is in for a nice present :)

Pssst over here..... :secret: Pack 'em in and tell no one. :evilguy: They'll ship it. You're not to know if it's dangerous are you especially since the labels fell off.

You didn't hear this from me. :whistling2:

Can you buy Transtint dyes in Australia?

You can purchase TransTints (they are re-labelled "ColorTone Concentrated Liquid Stains") from this company and they will ship to you

www.stewmac.com. (http://www.stewmac.com.)

They have renamed the colours as well but it is the same product from the same manufacturer.

Transtains are considered dyes, they are micronize particles in an anionic base which is the binder for this metal complex dye.

The other one that is shown are the universal color concentrates without any binder, whatever coating you add it too will act as the binder, that is why you can add these concentrates to almost any coating.

The Transtains are transparent, the other colorant is translucent.

If there are any Mohawk or Behlen supplies in Aussieland they woud have the Ultra Penetrating Dyes.
