Geez if it hasn't been 40+ in the shade up here the last few days. I hope all of you had a cooler weekend! Oh no I ain't whinging about the temps, it the damn humidity we get with it! http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/mad.gif

I havn't shown you a few steps, but all I have done since Part 5 was basically the same as I did in Part 5 anyway. Two more coats latter, basically is where we take off today.

I tried to get a pic to show you the finish I got. But it didn't turn out too well (not many pics did today actually) But I think you'll get the idea.

Now its time to get that plastic cover sheet off and start putting the thing back together.

http://members.dingoblue.net.au/~watfen/radiogram-removing%20plastic%20cover.JPG

Yep even us 'tradesmen' make the odd stuff-up! Damn masking tape! So looks like yet another repair on this thing.

http://members.dingoblue.net.au/~watfen/radiogram-veneer%20removed%20by%20tape.JPG

Its a pretty easy process to repair it though. More of that nasty masking tape to hold the veneer back in place. While the cabinet is lying down I can give it a good once over inside where I havn't re-finished. OH! http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/eek.gif what do we have here? Looks like a tub of someones special traditional wax!! http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/wink.gif Yes I am using some of U-beauts Traditional wax.... Theres a plug for ya Neil. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/biggrin.gif

http://members.dingoblue.net.au/~watfen/radiogram-cleaning%20inside%20&%20repair.JPG

Now is also a perfect time to get them feet that I kept forgetting about, screwed back in place. Bad pic here sorry..

http://members.dingoblue.net.au/~watfen/radiogram-fitting%20feet.JPG

Now its back on its feet I can finally get that shelf fitted.

http://members.dingoblue.net.au/~watfen/radiogram-fitting%20shelf.JPG

You will notice that the back has been left unstained. Yeah yeah its something else I overlooked because I wasn't re-finishing the inside. So the back had to come off and a quick stain etc & we are back on track. Glad I screwed the back in place even more now!
Anyway I never got a pic of that. So now I can screw the doors hinges, handles, catches etc back on

http://members.dingoblue.net.au/~watfen/radiogram-hinging%20doors.JPG

And finally with all the ups & downs I have had - its FINISHED!

http://members.dingoblue.net.au/~watfen/radiogram-finished.JPG

And for comparison's sake - heres the first pic again.

So - whaddya reakon?

I actually started another small job today that I might put on here similar to what I have done here for the radiogram. But the camera for some reason corrupted the before picture. But luckily I also took the same pic with my trusty old 35mm, so if it might be a while before I get it up on here. Thats if your interested!!

Cheers!

Somthing to aspire to, Shane. Thanks for taking the time to show this. I look forward to your next project.

Well done, Mate!

Damn Shane, my wife isn't going to like you. I moonlight every once in a while doing auctions on Sundays (not calling them, just holding stuff up, moving etc) and we see these old, beat up art-deco pieces all the time that go for a song. I'll have to get one and give it a try just for sh!ts and giggles.

I know it must be harder than it looks, and my patience runs a short fuse, but for a $10 piece I'll take my anger out on it if need be and it can be winters firewood http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/biggrin.gif

G'day Shane
Wow !! Top job, the figured veneer on the doors came up realy good . Was it an off the gun finish, or did you rub it out with steel wool & wax ?

Thanks for the positive comments guys.

Johnno - I have been approached in the past with requests to run restoration classes, but to be honest I wouldn't know where to start & lack the confidence. But hands on Bundy courses, mate every Aussie should be born with the knowledge to handle a good bundy rum http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/wink.gif

Marty - Yep, off the gun. I know no different. The only time I rub a finish out is if the client wants a 'hand rubbed' finish without paying the labour costs involved with french polishing. Actually I am amazed at how many of my clients ask if my finish has been rubbed, they can't believe such a smooth surface can be obtained off the gun. I guess the general public get taught that the commercial finish's you find on furniture in places like Harvey Norman are the best that can be expected.... hah! yeah right... http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/biggrin.gif

Cheers guys & keep an eye out with-in a week or possibly two and I will have another project up. I finished it today but have to wait for one photo to be developed. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/eek.gif

Nope - I won't even have the radiogram once my client pays & collects it.

Cheers!

Well I picked up an old Radiogram on the weekend at an auction for $55. It's in pretty bad shape and could possibly be beyond me, but I am going to give it a shot anyway. Expect some emails when I get started on it, Shane. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/biggrin.gif
