So the other week I went up there to score a couple of things and the most important was the dial measurer thingy so I can set up these tools properly... which they didnt have of course and had to wait on it arriving.

So no worries... a week later and a couple of calls later I get this lovely lady on the end of the phone "Hi Shane your package is sitting at the Preston post office I dont know why they havent delivered it yet but its at the post office" "Hi wheres Preston post office?" "Sorry I dont know Im in Western Australia" "So am I down near Bunbury" "oh hang on a minute please Shane"... tum te tum... "Shane?" "Yeah" "Sorry but I see whats happened its been transposed over east somehow" "ha yeah sounds about right for Aussie Post" "dont worry I will try to get it back and down to you" "no worries thanks"

(I know why the Preston Post Office didnt deliver it... do you? :q )

Now about then I was well on my way further south to Albany for a quick visit and so went out of range for a time during which she rang home and spoke with the missus "We will get it down to him hopefully next week"

So here I am halfway through that next week and still waiting

Funny but I really thought that my name and address was pretty clear on the paper work they have on me up in Perth along with the discussions and fact that Id waltzed in to the store after ringing and telling them I may be late since Im on the freeway coming up from Brunswick Junction in the southwest... seems either they addressed it wrong or Aussie Post made a monumental stuff up

Dont get me wrong I like everything about Carbetec... great company great service and great people... this struck me as weird as I thought they used a courier company instead of Aussie Post

Anyways it should be here with the arrival of the camel train from wherever Preston is  that is of course if it doesnt side track via Brizvagus or Darwin  would have been easier and quicker to have gotten them to give me a ring when it arrived and made the trip up to pick it up myself

If it is in Victoria, Preston is close to Brunswick - both suburbs of Melbourne. Doesn't help you much but it might explain part of the puzzle.

Hi Dingo,

Prestons is also a suburb in SW Sydney.

I regularly courier stuff for work and seldom if ever need to put on a postcode. But most of my stuff goes local. Maybe you need to specify the transport next time,

Maryborough Queensland

Maryborough Victoria

This is why we always insist that the state as well as the postcode is used. DAMHIK

Let’s face it Shane. No one likes you, Timbecon doesn’t like you, Sherwood doesn’t like you, Carba-tec doesn’t like you and Aus Post doesn’t like you. :D

Better luck next time brother.

I don't like you either, Shane.

I had a customer in a past job who ordered some product from us. He was in Belmont, just outside Geelong.

Our logistics mob rang me the next day from Belmont, just outside Newcastle (NSW) to tell me that the street did not exist.
Two days later I got the same call from Belmont in QLD.
Three days after that they tried to deliver it to Newcastle again.

He finally got his laminate a week and a half after he ordered it. And it had been damaged.

Just kidding about not liking you Shane. You're orright. :2tsup:

There is also a Preston in Qld & another one in Tassie.

It could be Preston Beach, that is in WA.

:U Good one fellas :laughing1: :brava

Sabastian... The funny thing is THEY KNOW ME! At Carbetec in Perth they have this wee card with my details on it like name ADDRESS phone number etc and they are here in WA just like I am and I rang them from the freeway when I went up there the bloke had the card in his hand when I paid for and ordered the thing... the problem is they use Aussie Post... I havent seen the package YET so Ive no idea if they put the post code on it but Im assuming they did which means AP got it wrong but I could be wrong here and maybe they didnt put the PC on it? Doesnt matter!! Someone mucked up and Im STILL waiting! :~

Bob as I said Ive not seen it yet so maybe they left of the state and the pc??

Wongo... so everybody hates little ol me? :weeping2: well I dont care!! if they dont get something as simple as sending a parcel to a client right for whatever reason I say something :boxing: hopefully they will sort it and learn to do it right if its not their problem and APs then maybe they will consider using a more reliable courier there is a lot of difference with the other mobs carryon than this... Carbetec are still my favored woodworking store over here (little choice but what the hey )

Rudd he was lucky it didnt come over to Belmont in WA :;

Wheelin Im contacting Carbetec to get them to do yet another trace on the thing this morning... I wont be waiting that long!!... worst comes to worst if its not here by next Tues they can drop the damned order and whenever it arrives they can keep it and I will pick one up when I head up there

Cliff no post office as such in Preston Beach... and its got Beach in its name this one apparently doesnt

Major... yep funny I got that too :U

Ramps please dont confuse the buggars any more than they already are otherwise it will head for Preston CHINA!!

Dingo, do you know Timbecon has a new owner? Maybe they will look after you this time.

No I didnt know that mate when did that happen? Hopefully it will mean a change in other areas of that business as well eh :2tsup:

Okay just of the phone with the bloke I was served by 3 weekends ago.... whew... apparently they have asked the Preston Post Office over east to readdress it and send it over to me... last Friday... as its still not here a week later he will send me anothery :2tsup: ... by Aussie Post which they use "cause its the cheepest courier" On condition I send the other one back to them whenever it arrives...

buggar :C thought Id end up with two the company doin the right thing an lettin me keep the othery cause Im a good customer and all that :2tsup: ...ah well not in this day an age I guess

Anyway we will wait upon the mercies of good ol Aussie Post again... me I think the other ones heading to China to visit our ol mate Wongo's mob and this one will find its way over east shortly to visit Cliffy or one of the Victorian mobs

And on that note I sing me song it wont take long and goes like this

Aint it the way? I mean there I was wonderin how much longer it was gonna take to get this thing and so as you see above I gave em another hoi and now theres anothery on its way to me...

ahem

Posty arrived a minute ago...

YEP there it was!! :U :2tsup:

Now I get it I have another joy joy happy happy time coming up... HOW DO YOU WORK THE THING!!! Actually when I bought it we were looking in the cattledog at the store cause they didnt have one on hand and its shown like this...

http://www.carbatec.com.au/store/images/product/CG-32.jpg

So guess what buggalugs THOUGHT it would come looking like? yep just like that... but of course cause no one likes me :C it didnt come like that did it... noooo it came just a wee box with the dial thingy in it and a couple of weird looking screws which seem to slide on the sides... and NOW no not then but NOW I SEE that you have to buy the flamin magnetic base thingy separate!! :~ but boy I thought some of them chingalese machines I bought were light on for distructions!! this thing takes the cake!!

Ah well its here and if I can ever figure it out maybe I can sort the damned machines out... its all good eh!! :;

Okay gotta go give James another call... first to tell him it finally got here so not to bother sending down the other one and second to order the damned base!!

And so a new song Ive got to sing it wont take long and it goes like this...

Im a dunce Im a dunce yeah yeah yeah Im a dunce!! :U

Pat
27th July 2007, 03:39 PM

PS, you got the power on in the cave yet?

Wild Dingo
27th July 2007, 09:09 PM
:U Power?? in the shed?? :U nah mate decided were not going to bother now as were selling the place... so they get the shed the house an the two acres they can power it up if they want :; (an the creek which is bursting its banks just now so were on "waterinhouse watch" for the next 24 hours :~ )

Yeah Im pretty stoked that its here finally :2tsup: James was about to send the second one when I rang back so helped them out to... theyre a good mob to work with I reckon :2tsup:

The dial came on its own for $59 seems I now have to buy the magnetic base as an "optional" extra for another $50  Ive got another thread up in jigs to see if anyones got a work around instead of me making another journey to Perth to get one... cause I sure as heck am NOT waiting on AP to get it to me!

Looks the goods :2tsup: ...now I just gotta figure out how it works! :U

Cheers!

Ding, I can't keep up. Selling up again. Where to this time?:D

Wild Dingo
28th July 2007, 11:43 PM
See now me young cobber... you'll figure this one out as yer go past the majikal 40 things change... just when you start to want to settle down and put down roots somewheres your beloved other half will start to thinkin about wanderin... so you of course will go along with her wants cause you love her to bits... and thats that...

There are however some lucky gits in this world who have a pleasurable time get married have nippers stay put for 40 or more years... then theres those other buggars who get the wonderlust every few years and theres nothing for it but another move in the wind

Actually we had hoped to stay put when we bought here nice block nice babbling creek not so nice house but had the $$ to fix it and the place up everything was honkey dorey it was... then a month after we got flooded out lost near on everything to the nice babbling creek so all the $$ put aside to fix the place up went into getting us all back on an even keel... then over the last two years its been a constant uphill battle with ill health house issues and now land and water issues meaning were unable to build the house we want on the property... so weve decided to move on

Yep agent comes tomorrow and its on the market as of then... they reckon they have someone who wants a 2 acre property to run a few horses on with a weekender but not necessary with a shed but not particularily main thing is the land with year round water and semi rural so they can run a few horses... this place is PERFECT for just that... and has the semi rural status with the shire to allow it... and it appears theres not to many within 20klicks of a major town available so were in a good possie for a quick sale which is ideal for us.

Were intending on moving toward the coast to Australind which is less than 20 minutes away but a lot more bedderer... have already looked at 2 places today and am contemplating putting an offer in on one tomorrow when the agent comes... "subject to..." of course :2tsup:

Weve just had enough of battling this place... its not worked out so before everything totally goes to shyte we will upstakes and move on to greener fields :2tsup:

Cheers

Mate I refuse to even GLANCE at one if it DOESNT have a flamin great huge shed!!... and Ive already put in the order for anothery even if it does have one!! AND!!! AND!! best of all shes kindly agreed to allowing me yes ME!! to get a brand spankin new ubeaut car!! WHAHOOOO!!! :2tsup:

Well okay maybe not BRAND BRAND new but still no more than 5 years old which is still pretty flamin new in my book!! :;

She got her brand new Lancer the other month and that fine if you like sittin in a moke... an have no power to drag an ant let alone a ton of timber around... no me Im aimin for about a 2004 - 5 Landrover or a Range Rover somethin with a bit of style somethin with a bit of pizzaz an somethin with enough grunt to pull the trailer loaded with wood or a nice big boat of some discription which I still have to convince her I HAVE to make... preferably sometime before I croak would be good  ... I had thought of a Landcruiser but well they lack that style that pazzaz that ooohlala they have the grunt to probs but style? nope... so thats what Im thinkin I need a nice ubeaut Landrover or Range Rover you know

Well its either that or a flamin Ford or... slap yourself stupid for saying it... a holden  nah gotta be a Landy I reckon :2tsup:

But yeah its GOT to have a shed and she KNOWS it... actually I gave her a darstardly dictum the other day... I was as crook as a dog you know with this ruddy flu and shes showing me these houses on the net fine houses all of them but NOT ONE had a shed worth callin a shed and able to hold the machines out the back so bein as I was crook and her sympathy only lasts 2 days and I was now into my 5th day I got antsy... "Look ere luv I tell yer what IF the place we get next DOESNT have a bloody great shed luv Im shootin through to Kal where EVERY BUGGARS GOT A REAL SHED an yer can stick it up yer proveribal b... ahem cute southern regions :B cause I aint movin anywhere that doesnt have a flamin shed!"

funny she didnt say anything till later in the arvo when I was out there in the cave sookin cause of the flu her selfish thoughts of housing an the phissin rain stoppin me gettin power on so I could do somethin and she waltzed out and stood in the doorway and surveyed the dark palace... "yer right darls sorry you NEED a shed... so Kals out right? Cause I think we'd have a riot on our hands if we moved out there you know? So yes you can have your shed and I'll stop looking at places that dont have them okay?" WELL!! You know what I did dont you? I fair flew over the bench between us knockin the mig welder onto the deck as I leapt in the air landed on a screw grabbed her up in me arms still doin a one footed jig and gave her a big good ol fashioned dingo pash!! right there in the shed I did!! the bandsaw was agast the table saw hid under the cover the thicknesser snickered at which sound I threw a hammer at it clockin it right on the table and the jointer shuddered while all the rest of them sat and hung their head... Im sure I heard one of them mutter "get a friggin room yer burke" but I cant be sure :;

Anyways its all good! :2tsup:

Jeepers Dingo, it sounds like you've got my kind of luck and I wouldn't wish my luck on my worst enemy. :-

At least it arrived, had it been me it probably never would have shown. Or it would be broken. I'd have noted that right after I used it to set something important up and broke that too. lol. Whats scary is I need to get one myself, I'm rebuilding my trans here in the next week or so. Watch me buy one, set up my trans, reinstall trans, blow up trans, and find its all due to a miscalibrated dial indicator. :- :- Then watch me rinse and repeat. I do that sort of things all the time. In fact I'm on my third head, first one the machine shop ruined then chucked me out the door, second one, the replacment, had a bad cam gear and it let loose a half mile down the road and interference engine said hello to new head, third one is on the car, bolted up, I've been avoiding finishing it though, I don't know why. :q

I've found it helps greatly not to take life seriously. Its all good.

The "where's the other half?" is a classic Matt saying as well. :U

Ding, I've finally stopped laughing long enough to give you a bit of sage advice.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BUY A POMMIE CAR:oo:

Take this advice from someone who has owned 2 , yes TWO, Rovers (should have learned my lesson first time around!) and a friend with a Daimler Sovereign. The Daimler was bought new, bits broke and fell off throughout its' life, same with the Rovers'.

Worst part of both brands is that the electrics always break down etc.
I can go on, but I haven't got the gift of the gab like you have.

I would concur with that, everyone I know who has had the pommy crap always complain that there is always at least one electric that won't function.
If you want to display real bad taste theres the Porche Cayenne, or if you have a casual $160+K laying around go for a BMW X5 M series.
The Landcruiser is a nice beast, big, comfortable, has everything you want on board and unlike the pommy counterpart, a good resale value, and they don't stop for no reason.
The Landrover is a great off road vehicle, it spends most of it's time off the road being bloody well fixed.....again again and again.

Sooo I guess a landrover is out then eh? :q What about a Range Rover? Theres one of them in pretty good nick down the road a bit for a fair sort of price...

Why not a Nissan? other than Ive heard theyre thirsty buggars Ive heard little negative about them.. :?

mmmm maybe I bedder stick with a Landcruiser eh? ...so what to look for in a new to me one about 5 to 7 years old (think about the budget ol fellas the budget!)... I was looking the other night on Carpoint and although I can get a reasonable one here for about 27000 I seem to see more and better over east... so Im thinking maybe a flight over an overnighter go try a couple out (with a suitably mechanically minded forumite in tow!!) get the best and drive back?

Iain
12th August 2007, 08:51 AM
Range Rover=Landrover with a flash body, few more appointments that are equally unreliable.
Landcruiser, full time 4x4, superb handling, bit thirsty though and rotate tyres often as the front scrub out because of full time 4, I get 24 litres per 100km, diesel is better and the new turbo goes like shyte out a shanghai, they tow well, I tow about 3 tonnes on a regular basis and no dramas, but they weigh 2.25 tonnes unladen.
Can't comment on the Nissan (Patrol) except it is not full time 4, but don't touch the 3 litre turbo, they have had some major problems.

Coldamus
12th August 2007, 09:33 AM
I agree with Iain. Forget anything British - not that I've got anything against the Pommies but they don't make reliable cars.

What style of vehicle do you want? By the sounds of it you're after a big, comfortable, wagon style 4wd suitable for towing, which usually means Landcruiser, Patrol or Pajero. Perhaps even a Prado.

Have you considered a ute, maybe a dual cab or extra cab/space cab? They have the ability to carry stuff you wouldn't want to put on the carpet in the back of a posh wagon. Now that there are V6 and diesel options in all three, the Hilux, Navara and Triton are all quite capable as well as comfortable, even luxurious in the deluxe versions.

Then of course there's the Troopie if you want tough without the style.

Wild Dingo
12th August 2007, 01:06 PM
Im still considering a ute... but I want some "style" along with comfort this time the bonus of 4x4 but mostly comfort... Ive had the troopie and as you say tuff without style its a shame they dont make them with a bit of it

Anyways thanks for the info!! :2tsup:

Iain
12th August 2007, 02:52 PM
Speaking of style, has anyone seen that bloody abomination, the Ssanyong Stavic, what a weird looking contraption, looks like the designers and the engineering department couldn't agree and neither would give in and neither won.
Looks like a cross between and sedan/hatch/wagon/ute/bus:o
Or you could go the Musso ute, another embarrasment to be seen in:rolleyes:

Presently the choices are:

1) Landcruiser
2) Nissan Navara
3) Nissan Pathfinder

or

4) A Ford ute... not sure possibly an XR6 maybe something along that line?

5) A car? Im thinking a fairylane or a stumpsman... neither of which really turn me on from a toss a log in the back and cart it home from the bush point of view

so gotta do some teaser drivin an see whats turns me on! :2tsup: take em for a hoot out to the woodstack in the bush an see how they handle the track and then the load... could be interesting eh!! :;

I have been in Australia since 1962 and the only English car I bought in all those years was a Morris 1100 in 1969. The British cars are great cars, yeah great, for someone else:) I must admit though, my father had a 2.4 Jaguar in 1957 and that was a great car but then again my dad had a habit of trading his cars in every couple of years so never really had it long enough to know how it stood up over time.

"Ive been thinking..."

"Well thats what Ive been thinking"

and of she wandered to snoreland  So I guess I will have to contact the agent in a few weeks (keep putting it off to give her time to settle) and get it delisted... in the meantime I start getting seriously phissed of with project homes salespeople... get the prices... get onto the shire to find out what they will require if we go on a pad instead of stumps

Oh and she cancelled my car :C "Youve got the effy" "yeah but shes a bitche" "AND YOUR POINT IS?" sigh Im gonna leave that one alone for a few months I think

BUT!!! I will continue to puruse the car yards and seek opinions and knowledge

Im presently down to the
Ford ute
Ford fairylane
Landcruiser
Nevara

I will (if she allows me that small freedom) take a run into town over the weekend and take a few test drives under the guise of getting "a suitcase for your trip" :2tsup: so it will take me a few hours!!! Lotsa suitcases out there darls!! :;

Hi Wild Dingo,

All of your problems with Preston P.O. (Vic) could have been
overcome if you had called me, albeit 16 years ago, as
I was the Postmaster there for my last six years before
retirement.:D

Incidentally we occasionally received mail which was
correctly addressed to Preston in England and therefore
had to be sent on.

Best wishes,

Allan

aaahh now mate some would say thats typical of me "16 years late and in another state without a damned date" :U :U

Nah its all sorta resolved now... Ive given up on getting one from Carbetex in fact Ive pretty much given up getting much of what I go up there intending to get since they never seem to have what Im travelling up there to get! Even though their cattledog says they have it

Ebay has it Im getting it from there and be done its getting so Im either going to have to find a more reliable source of things or Im just gonna have to stop bein so blasted lazy and start makin stuff for meself!! :o :;

Cheers
