Check out this place for sale in Millaa Millaa, Far North Qld. Follow the link, then go to property no. RR360 under 'rural residential', and prepare to be stunned. An elderly woodworker is selling his property, timber slabs, tools and all, and I WANT IT, DAMMIT!!!!

Anywhere on the Tablelands is beautiful. If you had the where with all, there would be value in buying this, removing all the timber and tools and reselling the place after a couple of months renos.

I agree. And yes, Millaa is very wet... but hey, who needs to go anywhere with a shed like that?
I can't buy it, so I want one of you to.

Gina says she has been meaning to get some more photos but... wet weather doesn't suit & she has to meet the old bloke out there & he is nursing his elderly wife in Malanda now so it is not always easy.
She says she will try to do it this weekend.
It really is a renovator's delight now.

The timber may not be in the same class, but this one near Tamworth has a registered factory that is obviously woodwork-related. For a house with 160 acres and a very big shed, It looks like a bargain to me.

I hope the link works. There seems to be a problem with their picture viewer but if you persist with it and scroll through the pictures, you should see one of the inside of the shed.

I know the guy that owns that place he makes furniture and sells it at the local markets. All the timber is furniture grade Radiata.
He must be retireing or maybe he died. I'll have to find out. I have actually been out to that place.

About 1977 - 83 Cliff.
Bummer about the pub:(
Other favourates at the time were:
The Criterion - Clownsville
The O - Cairns
The Lions Den - somewhere out near Cooktown
The PostOffice - Chillagoe
Musgrave Station - the Cape
You had to go a long way for a good beer in those days:wink:

BT,
don't know about ther others, but the big O (The Oceanic hotel) was knocked down a few years ago, one of the last hotels in the infamous "Barbary Coast" area of Cairns. It's demise started when they finally knocked down the old "Red Oriental Fish Bar" after closing it numerous times for health breaches. 'Twas rumoured to be a drug trading house, and judging from its unsanitary condition, I'm sure no one ever went there for the cuisine. I've got photos somewhere of the Millaa Millaa pub, just after it was burnt, a bit suspicious in my mind as it was in the middle of a renovation.

Hi Mick, seems thats the way it goes with old pubs. The Critterion in Townsville used to be a wharfies/fishermans pub, then Uni students - renovations - then its a "family" hotel, don't know where its at now..probably back to wharfies pub.
Don't even go to them anymore.......pokies killed pub culture down here.

I'm originally from that neck of the woods (Cairns), and that house in Millaa Millaa would be paradise once you got it fixed up a bit. I'd love to move back up there someday, but I can't see me convincing SWMBO of the desirability of the move....

Have they released the "last blocks" in the Daintree yet? That's a nice spot, but you might get sick of the tourists - unless you were exploiting them of course.:)

Some questions for your wife.
How much land?
Is there running water or dams, creek etc?
Are there good home sites on the land?
Is the land mostly cleared or wooded?
These are serious questions:)

We went for a look today. :photo2:
The place is 7.5 Kms from Millaa Millaa on 2.5 acres.
It is on the top of a small hill with views in all directions.
There is no creek or dam but it has close to 1700M² of roof area feeding into 2 tanks, one of them is huge, the other is the same size as the one we have at home & it will last us 2 weeks between refills.
The property is in a very wet area so the tanks would always be getting topped up.
There is a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house on the land almost totally surrounded by sheds & you can walk straight out of the house into the sheds without getting wet.
The original house would have been a 3 bedroom single bathroom house & the extra bedroom & bathroom have been added later.
The vacant ground is mixed trees & the ground around them has recently been 'tided up' with dozer. :D
If you removed some of the trees, there is room to build a new house.
The sheds are very big, not just big.... very big & they are mostly full.
There is a bit of room left in one of them (the vacant area is more than my whole shed space alone.:oo: )
The old bloke was making slab clocks & slab coffee tables.
The house has about 700 unfinished clocks in it. :oo:
There are more slabs of timber of all different sorts in the sheds that I could count in the hour that we were there.
It the sheds there is...
an old metalwork lathe (very big, condition unknown, he never used it)
a combo sander, disk belt job, cast iron
a very big belt sander, 3 or 4 meters long
a double bag dusty, connected to the belt sander
a 600mm (2ft) band saw (SQ600 is all I can see on it)
a 10'' Hyco tilting tablesaw, cast iron table, a bit rusty.
a 20" (? guess) tablesaw with a top that is about 6' x 4'
a Hafco woodlathe
a bench mounted pedistal drill
a circular saw (orange but not Triton)
an electric cement mixer
heaps of other bits & peices of woodworking gear, nothing collectable.
lots of paints & finishes.
lots of ladders & 3 very tall trestles.
He doesn't live in the house but says he checks on it once a week.
I took 98 photos, 2 were duds so I have 96 photos with a total of 239Mb of data.
Gina also took some photos & will have some of her pics loaded onto the web site.
Any body wanting more details can contact Gina via the real estate web site or myself via PM or E-mail.
(If you are serious, I can make a CD of the pics)

Thanks for that Cliff.
Unfortunately, I am after about 50 to 100 acres, with hopefully a running creek.
I want to put our house in the middle of the land so I can't hear or see anyone else:D
You never know though, if it is still on the market in 6 to 8 months I may be interested. Just for the sheds, timber and machinery.
Sorry Mick, No Doctor or fridgy sparky just yet:D

Is it pretty mych located on the top of a rise? rather than at the bottom... oooohh buggar it I'll zap you a pm with the address
2.5 acres is okay by us since thats what were on at present... with trees and such its enough to keep someone pleasantly contented for years... and big blessing of having
NO bloody creek to flood us out... one question... there ISNT a railway track that runs along the property line is there?
As Ive said a move over there is a good option for us... so a good gander via a whole bunch of pics is definantly a good thing before we or rather I go roaring over the country to have a look... a few months away yet... but if the properties right then no reason why I cant just toddle over have a gander slap down a deposit and bobs yer uncle is there :;

It is on the top of a small hill with views in all directions. I've taken pictures of the view from a couple of directions.
.. ... there ISNT a railway track that runs along the property line is there?....
Nope, miles from any railway. 57 Kms to Atherton or 66Kms to Innsifail where the railways are, also were the major supermarkets are.
There are several small towns closer with IGA, 5Star or Spar.
.. An hour??? Mick... MA MA MATE!!! :; We'd be next door neighbors!! ....
An hour.... :oo: in a big bloody hurry....
It is 112Kms from Kuranda to Millaa Millaa & Mick is a few Kms up a side road & this place is 7.5 Kms up a side road so it is every bit of an one & three quarter hours if you don't speed.
