packing under bearers

G'day
I've got 150x63 laminated bearers housed into timber stumps and everything is level.:U Unfortunately in some places there's a gap between the bottom of the bearer and the
bottom of the rebate in the stump.:doh: Anyone got any ideas on the best thing to use to pack it up with? I thought of cement sheet, any other ideas?

Been under a fair few old houses and cement sheet is what they have used to pack the stumps - won't rot and ants don't eat the stuff.

It is unusual for the bearer to be housed in to the stump. What are you building?

Hi Tools,
building a house, the plans say house the bearers into the stumps so that's what I've done.
In the past I've generally sat bearers on top of stumps and skew nailed them. Seems everything has to be tied down now. (mind you this is the first time I've done a whole house, previously just done decks or additions)

Concrete stumps come with protruding reo to tie the bearers down ... but you don't want to hear that after all that hosuing out!! :)Best follow the pans I guess.

Cement sheet is the way to go for packing, you can get different thicknesses to suit. Also, where thin packing is required (if you are pedantic like me and need packing in mm incroments) you can use that bitumen damp course stuff.
