View Full Version : Do Your Bit To Save Water

You too can take action to save water. Lobby your employer/business landlord/whoever you need to and ask them to replace standard water flushing urinals with this:
http://www.desert.com.au/waterless.htm (http://www.desert.com.au/waterless.htm)
It is not a joke, I've worked in a building in SA which uses them, and there is no smell, and they must be saving water.
Particularly in a building like the one I'm in now, where the urinals work on a motion sensor near the door, we must be wasting quite a bit.
You don't have to be a boy to ask for the change, and don't just ask for it in your building, if you work for a big organisation ask for them to do it nationally. Universities, shopping centres, wherever you go, this is a good thing.
I haven't done any evaluations, so it might cost a bit more than paying for flushing water, but sooner or later we might run out of that, and these little cubes are being churned out of some factory or other like there's no tomorrow.
You know it makes sense.

I don't know anything of the kind. Most of this cr@p about water is just that ... cr@p.
If I was going to do anything, then it would be working out a way to use seawater to flush the urinals. This would have the added advantage of stopping pets using the toilets as water bowls too.

One of my clients is Melbourne Water. In their offices in East Melbourne they have zero water urinals. They work and don't smell.
One of my dogs drinks sea water when were down at the beach. I can tell you with a great deal of authority that it goes through them like a dose of salts.
Another thing to do is to replace your toilets with Composting Toilets. No water used and you can use the compost on your garden.

Sorry guys but I am with Bogan on this.
I was in Toowoomba not long ago and I get there on a regular basis.
They are on Level 5 restrictions and I was told that if they don't get rain in the catchment area soon the dam will be empty next year. Even if some of it is scare tactics about timing they are coming up for big problems. When I was there one of the shopping centers had those cubes in the urinal NO water and NO smell.

Well it certainly looks interesting. I've asked them to send some info (to my work address) - worth investigating at least. Do you know how many urinals there are at the University here... :o

I know that the high school that I am currently at has removed the cisterns from all of the male urinals and are now using these blocks. So as long as the kids get the aim right they seem to work well.

G'day,
There's a simpler answer to this:
1. don't pee,
or
2. pee in your pants
or
3. pee in the shower
Simple. :2tsup: :D

My last job was in an office block owned by Investa properties who are one of the biggest commercial property managers in Australia, and they are aiming to install this system in all of their buildings
http://www.investasustainability.com.au/reports/2006/sustainability/office_industrial/water.asp
Good on them! I'm sure they'd only do it if there was an economic benefit, but hey, at least they're making an effort (Gumby!)

It is infinitly more poetic to drown ants behind a tree than to piddle into a little pool of still water.
Saves water too....

Why? Fair enough it was probably a bit of a spam post, but I think that this is something that is serious topic. At least it is for us up here!
