I got told on the weekend that when they decided to stop cattle grazing in the high country, they also went in and bulldozed the dams which were around the place to supply drinking water to them. These small dams were marked on the maps used by the CFA to refill the tankers. Nobody from DSE told them they weren't there any more and after having trouble getting to them, all they found was dust.

why are we always surrounded by stupid people?
and why are they always in a position to highlight their stupidity?

Completely and totally incorrect. In all respects. Firstly there were no dams ever built to service mountain cattle.
There have been occasions when small dams have been built as Water points (WP) for fire fighting due to a local lack of water. Occasionally these are re-sited or removed for variouse reasons, however the only example of this i can think of is well outside the "mountain cattle" area.
It is possible that cattle being run on mountain leases used these water points probably destroying the surrounding vegetation in the process and creating a potential erosion and weed problem.

You've been sending the smoke up this way - we've had it as a thick cover for 3 days due to the inversion layer over Canberra (yeh ... all that hot air!). I think the winds today finally cleared it.
Hope all is well.

We could smell burning grass all last night, smoky again too.
All we need now is one tosser in the Dandenongs with a passion for arson and that will be gone again too.

Seems like every thing is stable down this way now.
Fire destroyed about 75% of the Framlingham Forest.
With a bit of luck it wiped out most the koalas too.
Framlingham was so overpopulated with koalas that they were noticably destroying the forest.

Framlingham was so overpopulated with koalas that they were noticably destroying the forest.
That explains why I used to see so many when driving through that way, usually sprawled out, spread eagled on their backs on the side of the highway, result of trucks from Adelaide in the early hours I suppose.
Most I saw where in the Pomborneit area.

Apparently all the fires around here have been deliberately lit
7 different fires all deliberately lit from Peterborough to Framlinglham/Purnim.
The situation hjas worsened.
We've just been told (bush telegraph) to be ready to go because of the wind direction. So it will depend on the winds unless the firebug actually lights our bush up.
Which could be possible as theres a lot of kms between the various fires so the firebug seems very moblie.
