I am in High Street, randwick, sydney and I want to get to Paramatta.
How can I get on to the number 1 Freeway and then get to the Western Distribution tunnel and over Anzac Bridge without driving overground through the City??????????????
Last night I got on the Number I at the top of Anzac parade and saw the direction board to the Number 4 but there is a continuous white line that stops me from crossing over to that inside lane and entering what looks like a tunnel to the 4.

Well if I wanted to get to Parramatta I wouldn't start from there. :p
Sorry I don't know.
They are pretty keen to funnel traffic into the cross city tunnel which is why a lot of the surface streets are closed off.

Catch a bus to Central and a train to Parramatta. Take a packed lunch.

I drove a Taxi in Sydney for 10 years and with the changes they have made even I couldn't tell you how to do that and I really think that silent has made the best suggestion so far.
What are you using, a laptop with wireless broadband.
And another thing if I was driving a car from Randwick to Parramatta I certainly wouldn't be going through the city. There are better ways than that sort of punishment.
My suggestion is go into the nearest Dick Smith store and buy a GPS and all your troubles will be over for the rest of you visit to Australia.

Have a look at travelmate.com.au. Go to the map maker section and type in your request. It will come up with the easiest possible route with driving directions, distance and estimated driving time. In Sydney it could be interesting.

Yeah, it will probably send him via Windsor or Canberra even...

Nope. Straight into the city through the Tunnels and the Toll ways and out onto the Western Distributor.
Travelmate is probably owned by the Toll Companies.
