View Full Version : How domestic are you?

According to a news report, men are doing more housework and spending more time with their kinds.
My daily routine.
Get home at 6pm, my wife prepares the ingredients ready for me and I will cook dinner.
The in-laws come over for dinner and then my MIL and I will bath the girls.
After that I clean up the living room a little bit and sweep the floor. (and the girls will mess it up in the morning:o )
On the weekends I will do some bigger jobs like cleaning windows, floor and work around the house.
How much housework do you do?

I do all the cooking, when I'm not working. When I'm working we eat out a lot. HI talents do not lie in the kitchen.

How long a list can I make:
These are my usual tasks:
100% of the following
cooking, including lunches, and meals for guests
dishes
vacuuming
washing floors
cleaning bathrooms/kitchen
feeding the animals
kitty litter
putting out the trash
mowing and all outside tasks
and I help out by doing about 1/2 the clothes washing.
Not sure what I've missed.

I cook about 1 in 4 nights. Load and unload the dishwasher. That's about it.
Ummm, did I mention I'm still trying to finish our house. I figure that makes up for it. :o

I changed a nappy once, a long long time ago.
So did I, but alas - it was put on back to front .
Les
Ps. I also do some other domestic chores - just not enough I guess.

I wish I had a dollar for every nappy I changed when our kids were babies. I had it down to a fine art. I once changed a nappy with one hand while I held a beer with the other. :D

I think I'm pretty domesticated. I can do 95% of all domestic tasks. Whether I choose to do them or not is a different matter. :D
I won't, however, change tap washers, mow the lawn, or service the car. I have to leave something for HWMBO to do....

My wife gets the kids ready and does breakfast in the morning except Sunday morning when I do breakfast and she gets a lay in. SWMBO also packs everyones lunch including mine.:o
In the evening SWMBO cooks the kids dinner and prepares ingredients for ours and I cook our dinner almost every night. We share dishwasher, I fill it and SWMBO empties it.:o
I bath the kids on the weekend and we each put one of them to bed each night and read them stories.
SWMBO does the washing and cleaning neither of us iron except me when I iron my shirts for work.
I cut the grass and most of the stuff outside sometimes SWMBO and the kids help with the gardening. I also change the light bulbs.

It takes a first time dad 3 sheets of baby wipe to change a dirty nappy. But for a experienced one, like myself, 1 sheet is more than enough.
You need to fold the sheet a few times of course.
Arh, and clean up your fingernails (sometimes).:D

The wife and I share most of the household duties (except she does all the laundry, but I iron some stuff).
But when it comes to wrangling the kids its a matter of efficiency. She can get them dressed in minutes. Takes me about half an hour. Getting all the arms and legs in the right holes in near impossible with my two. And getting a nappy on the small one? Forget it! Apparently using velcro on your kids when on the change table is wrong.......What about quick release clamps? That would help......
Other than that, I cook and do dishes, she baths the monsters and reads the books. I open the wine when they're in bed.
I works for us. Everyone has to find what works for them. And for the single parents out there - I don't know how you do it.
Cheers,
Stuart

SWMBO gets a cuppa in bed every morning.
I do the washing up, cook about 50% of the meals, bake all the bread, do the lawns and about 20% of the garden.

I don't wash I don't iron and I don't cook I agree to stay away from the housework and my wife agrees to stay out of the shed and as far as my kids are concerned once they left home I took all their keys off them so they couldn't get back in.

Altogether too blasted much!
I recently disposed of the services of my housekeeper as she just wasn't doing a decent job.
However, shirts 'n stuff goes to a laundry service now (better and cheaper than housekeepers woeful attempts).
Cleaning is no big deal as I'm reasonably tidy anyway.
Cooking is something I enjoy, so have always done this (even with GFODs MkI through Mk(not saying! :D))
I have a garden service too as I loathe & detest gardening of any form :D :D

Umm..How domestic am I?
Ok I am the one who organises the linen press...
I am the one who organises the tupperware... and I order it and have been known to host a party or two
My wife comes to me to find out where things are
I clean out the lint/coin filter in the washing machine
I write the shopping list .... and then do the shopping
I vaccuum, iron, pack and unpack dishwasher, clean showers, clean baths, clean children, nappies (ha I laugh in the face of evil)and yeah I too have used a small chisel to remove unwanteds from under my nails, cook, and do the rubbish..
My wife says one day I will make someone the perfect wife.

We share the domestics here at home. I wash hang it out, cook, vac and what ever else needs to be done. Since Mrs bluegum has had a joey in the pouch I'm doing a bit more and I enjoy it. Domestic bliss on the home front is important. I also keep the yard & dogs under control and maintain the veggie patch. I find gardeing to be relaxing.:)

The bride does most of it in our home, I help out with the dishes 1-2 times per week & sometimes hang out the washing, but it's all her mostly.
The lawns & pretty much anything outside gets done by me.
I get to go out to work & she manages the house. Pretty straightforward.
Cheers...............Sean

With only one daughter left at home it's pretty much shared here. Daughter gets bathrooms, vacuuming and dog feeding. SWMBO scores clothes washing, half the meals, most dusting and assorted bits and pieces including sharing the gardening. I score dishes, other half of the cooking, all ironing, lawns, car washing and windows. The last two are not on the frequest list I might add.
There is a bit of delegation and sharing of other bits and pieces, swmbo gets a cup of tea in bed before I head off to work, which keeps the morning nice and quiet and everyone does their own lunch and breakfast. Housework is best done and not thought about, if everyone pitches in at the stage our family is at it really is no big deal.

At castle Stinkalot the Stinkette and I share the cooking 50% each ..... I do all outside work, gardening, mowing, repairs, bins etc ....... I make my own lunch and breakfast, and wash myself.
The Stinkette washes and irons ...... dishwasher is shared.
We employ a house cleaner to do the rest.

I can do all the domestic duties but only do it when there is no choice.
I'm happy with that arrangement.

I do most of the domestic stuff at my place. This includes cooking, laundry, cleaning and looking after the kids (aged 2 and 3). I also do all of the outside stuff like mowing laws, trimming hedges etc.
My wife is the breadwinner in our family and I stay home and look after the kids. I gave up paid employment when my oldest kid was 3 months old and the plan is that I will go back to work once the kids go to school.
The decision for me to stay home and my wife to work was purely financial. She earns way more than I ever did.

I dunno if I am domesticated at all.
I do the dishes half the time. Cook dinner occasionally (once or twice a week) and all breakfasts, do clothes once or twice a week, make the bed (futon!) 90% of the time, various cleaning like shower and vacuum and make the cash (but not too much, about 20 hours a week). I also do maybe half the grocery shopping and most of the out of the house stuff.
She does what I don't do, which right now is washing every day, lots of baby stuff, etc, etc.
I think I do maybe 5-10 nappies a day (but the boy don't poop!), half the bath, occasionally feed him, talk and play at least 2 hours a day, etc, etc.
I don't know that I do that much around here, but I can do all of it if I have to. Just wouldn't be a very happy Schtoo is all. ;)
(If anyone is wondering, the 20 hours is correct, and affords lotsa shed time. The hourly rate I get is disgusting, which makes the few hours I work bearable... :) )
