I remember filling in a census form in the early 80's where we created a ficticious flatmate modelled on Neil from The Young Ones.

Their will be heaps doing it. You only need 10.000 for it to be officialy classed as a Religion. :)

AFL isn't a religion, it's a sport.

You see, a religion is where thousands of fanatics gather together all over the country on a regular basis to chant and carry on about something that in the scheme of things is very unimportant but which they take so seriously that people have been injured, even killed, for saying the wrong thing and...

Oh, yeah :o

sounds like a sharpening thread, silent!

I think it is Australian to lie in the Census form...at least to make the place seem much more interesting.

Had an argument with my MIL the other night on why is it so crucial that the census has to be done on Tuesday night. I understand the idea of having a snapshot of the nation. It just doesn’t make sense to have to done it tother in 1 night.

Would the nation as a whole be any difference if the information is collected over 1 night or a period of say 7 days? Probably not. The truth is not everyone will do it tonight anyway. So why are they so anal about it? Why can't we be given a week to complete it instead of changing our plans or missing out?

She said “You don’t understand.” and she is right because I don’t.

Is Darkside a religion then?

Or Wendy's Wood Whisperers?

Can I believe in more than one thing at once? What would be the third of the holey (sic) trilogy? Triton?

Forget JEDI. Put Woodie, that way, when it becomes an official religion all of our sheds become temples. Just think of the tax advantages.......:D:D:D

Why can't we be given a week to complete it instead of changing our plans or missing out?

Because it is supposed to include anyone who stayed under your roof on Tuesday night. So say someone comes to your house tonight and stays and then goes home tomorrow, where do they do the census? They only want to capture each person once. It also gives them a statistic on how many people have house guests. Call yourself a mathematician? Pah!! :p

Yes Silent, if the census is about “Where are you on Tuesday night 8th August 2006” then I will agree with you.

Think about Australia as a whole. Are we not interested in things like age, work type, income and all that?

My point is this kind of information will not change over night. For example, according to the last census, 75% of our population drive to work. Does it matter if they are this question on Tuesday night or Monday night? Let say you normal would drive to work but because you are staying with a mate tonight so you catch a train to work today. OK 1 less Australian drives to work today. We will still get 75% anyway.

Hang on, I don’t normal drive to work but today I will. Just make up the difference.:D

I think I think too much.:o

You miss the point my son. They want it done on one night so that they don't get double ups from confused people who stayed at a friends house one night and were at home the rest of the week.

Also, it's meant to be a snapshot. "Where are you on Tuesday night 8th August 2006" IS what the census is about, amongst other things.

Anyway, just do what everyone else does and fill it in when you want. As long as it's ready when they come to pick it up, who will know or care? Not me and not a billion Chinese :D

Just got tired of writing so i thought i'd try to use the ecensus. I accidentally pressed backspace and now have to wait 30 minutes to login AGAIN.

I'm computer literate, I feel sorry for those who try the ecensus and are still doing the census next year

At least they know the word security.

That's another reason they say to do it on Tuesday night, to avoid confusion about things like "I drove to work yesterday but not today". It doesn't matter what you did yesterday, it's what you did today they want to know. Yes Wongo, you think too much. ;)

Our Norwegian exchange student is going home today so I have taken Lief off my Census:rolleyes:
I know, I know, it's as old as the hills
The bloke who dropped the forms in for us told me that he gets a text message as soon as an E Census is submitted, and they started over a week ago.

And as a nation, what we all did yesterday and what we do today should be pretty the same.

Iain, Please do not worry. Our new Norwegian exchange student arrives today. So the number of Norwegian exchange students in the country will not change :D

Anyway, I won’t be doing mine anyway because I already have something planned for tonight. :D Unless I change my plan of course.

OK OK I am such a good citizen so I will change my plan and do the census instead.

It's not about what we did as a nation, it's about what YOU did. See?

How do you think they will be able to come up with stats like "25% of single men under the age of 25 stayed at a girlfriend's house on Tuesday" if they let you do it whenever you want?

What questions aren't on the census form?

What method of sharpening do you use?

Do you like reputation points?

Do you use a jig to make your dovetails?

Do you make the tails before the pins?

Are you a folder or a scrumper?

Does Doug the Slug have the best avatar?

What is your favourite pancake recipe?

Do you wear foil?

These are questions which are of interest to me but I didn't notice them on the form.

I supect that the call for a single-night snapshot is precisely because the ABS doesn't for a moment believe that everyone will actually complete the census on the specified day, but by urging folk to do so may help to focus the window to a closer timespan.

When I completed my eCensus form this morning, the website accepted my submission - even though it was clearly in advance of the nominal period.

Nor even the more fundamental type of question such as "what do you do for relaxation/entertainment"

34% of of Australian Males entertain themselves in their shed. 21% of these, allegedly, even make things....   :D :D :D

I still haven't received it so I've just called again and was told it might arrive within a couple of days. Doesn't matter though, so long as I fill it in before 28th August:confused:

Here's another vote for online filing!

I had a bit of an interruption half way through, had to go, got locked out of the site for half an hour, came back and it was all there!

I wish the airlines would use the same software for their online bookings.

She said “You don’t understand.” and she is right because I don’t.It's mostly about where you sleep tonight. You can fill the form out yesterday, today, tomorrow, the end of the week (last week would be a bit iffy cause a certain number will die between filling in the for and census night) but for those who run multiple households if you did it over a week they would get counted more than once.

My biggest beef is question 41, where you worked last week.
For my SWMBO it was NZ. I know at least two others who were working overseas last week but are back home this week.

We had a hoot of a time over the religion question... took about an hour and a half to decide on "our" religion

Her bloody highness... Gedi (ala the force be upyer) mind you shes never seen the movie  and wouldnt know a gedi from her earhole but makes no nevermind to my possumpoop! ;)
Bethy 16... Amish (god know why! she hates the country life so would have a bloody hard time of bein Amish!)
Jacinta 14... Morkite (ala Mork and Mindy nanoo nanoo... Im a morkite from way back have every show ever made and love it! Jac and I sit and watch it constantly amazing humor)
Brie 12... Princess (her argument? If they can have gedi an amish an morkite for their religion I can be a princess!)
Joshy 11... Chippy!... Yep the little bloke reckons I spend more time in the shed cuttin and muckin with wood that my religion is Chippy so thats what he wants to be... great eh!
Me... well first I said Muslim then I changed that to International spy then I changed that to madcaped lunatic... hey it fits! ;)

ended up bein Amish since Beth near wet herself laughin at the fact that every thing she said started with Amish... "Amish Im goin to bed now" Amish I want a drink please" Amish... etc etc

mad the lot of us!!

Actually we adhere to the method prescribed as it doesnt matter what religion we are and its none of their business anyway theory... stuff em!:p
