View Full Version : Gap - How Should I Rectify It?

Hi,

As some of you will already know, that we had our house recently restumped again - 10 months after a previous crowd had supposedly done it!!. Anyway as a result of the latest team levelling the house (as you will see from the images attached) there is now a gap between the porch area and the weatherboard.

Would fitting a wooden bead along the entire length be the way to go, or can you suggest a better idea?.

Thanking all those in advance who take the time out to reply.

Cheers
David

G'day Metal Head,

I should think a bead or other trim piece would work well, but would not suggest wood for an exterior application touching the ground like this. Water and wood hate each other. You may want to use one of the synthetic woods (i.e., PVC-based) that is impervious to water. It can be painted like real wood. If you use it, seal it with acrylic caulk (not silicone, which does not adhere well to synthetics) to keep water from wicking up behind or into your weather boards.:)

Just out of interest (if you don't mind me asking!) how much did it cost to have your house restumped?

Hi RenoGirl,

The first time $6000 and the second time which was done correctly was $4500.

Caulking the joint would be the easiest way. This will also cater for any movement that may occur.

Cobber I cannot remember off hand but it was a fair few. I hope you didn't get in the crowd I had to do it first time around and I won't mention the name here for litigation reasons;).

Arms - Are you willing to pay their air fares & put them up?.
