OK it's sort of wood related.
I've worn my fingers to the bone doing a Google search for cane suppliers in Australia and have only found one burglar in Q'land.
What I'm after is about 60-70 metres of 8mm willow cane or 8mm rattan core cane.
Any leads appreciated, must be in Australia as quarantene does not have a sense of humour.

I know that the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) uses thicker rattan, but their supplier might also be able to get 8mm stuff for you?
Just an idea? Can't help otherwise.
As for finding them - MAYBE a Google search will work to find a nearby group?

Have you tried the Yellow Pages? Not all suppliers are on the web.

Should the schoolboys in your area be investing in thicker underwear;), or is there another, more *ahem* "creative" use in mind?
Why do you need the cane?

To make some baskets. They are not woven like the normal basket, they are wrapped around and pinned together, hence the 8mm material.

Are they steamed, or bent dry?

Bent dry, 8mm willow or rattan core are OK for dry bending. If the size gets any bigger you have to steam the willow or soak the rattan up to about 15mm. Rattan in larger sizes or with the outer sheath still on needs to be steamed or heated with a gas torch.

MAJOR supplier (SCA supplier for several years, dunno about now) - Leggo A Victor also supplied stuff for some films I was associated with.
If you want BIG bundles - 45-60_ cm in diameter, 3-6 metres long, these are the guys to go to. Actually 8mm is likely to be smaller bundles, say 15-20cm dia & bent double for shipping. Available in yellow (bark on) and white (bark off).
They had offices in Sydney & Melbourne(HQ) - now only Sydney shows up on the Internet Yellow Pages. Nothing at all comes up on Telstra's White pages (and people are paying for this service?)

Thanks folks, there are a couple of likely leads among that lot that I haven't checked out yet, will do on Monday. A lot of them are US sites and some don't have the right material and one is very expensive, but as I said, there are a couple that may do the trick.
Thanks again.
