WASHINGTON: A leading university has closed its chimpanzee research program, sending nine chimps to a refuge where they will no longer be used for research.
Ohio State University said it was following the lead of other institutions that have scaled back chimpanzee research, the closes genetic relative of human beings.
"The time is now right to move the animals to safer quarters where they can live out their lives in peace," said senior vice-president for research Robert McGrath.
They will be taken to San Antonio in Texas
