I am building some shelving for my walk in pantry. I had to remove the existing skirting board which has left a gap of 20mm wide and 12-15mm deep between the floor tiles and the gyprock wall. I’m after suggestions as to whether I fill this gap with timber or some type of tile mix/filler. Once completed this will not be seen. I just don’t know if the tiles will move now that they aren’t butted up to anything at the moment. Thanks.

I would like to think the tiles are glued down firmly and won’t budge. Fill with silicone or gap filler if you wish.

Fill with sand and cement grout

If left, that gap might become a dirt trap. You could fill it with a wooden batten, or a section of quad or molding.

It is usually best to leave skirtings in place and mold built-ins to suit. We live in a period house and all skirtings are still there behind or inside built in wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, bookshelves, etc.
