Redgum outdoor table oil advice

Hi all,

I'm just finishing up a redgum table for my outdoor area and have run in to a bit of a roadblock with the finish.

I'm wanting a matte/satin finish, definitely not gloss, and to maintain/highlight the characteristics of the timber as much as possible (ie. no pigment).

It will be undercover but will get a bit of morning sun, maybe the odd splash from rain but not really.

Researching on the net got me somewhere but is also confusing/contradictory. I liked the Danish Oil look but understand it's not best for outdoors.

I'm currently leaning towards Organoil Garden Furniture Oil and thought this would be the best place to confirm my choice or get a better alternative.

I was looking for a similar finish on an outdoor chair and went for Cutek CD50 clear decking oil. It is going to need re oiling 2 or 3 times a year by the look of it but that isnt a big job. The CD50 did darken the wood (celery top pine) a little but nothing like Danish Oil.

Sorry for the late response to this. Saw it meant to reply got caught up in other stuff and completely forgot.

Have had a lot to do with Organ Oil since it's inception. I'm not affiliated with them and have nothing to do with them but was good friends with 2 of the original partners and did many dinners with them over the years at Woodworking events.

Some of our products were used and recommended by them for use with their products.

Anyway that disclosure aside. I can recommend their outdoor oils as they were very good haven't kept up with what they're doing for well over 10+ years now, but presume their products are still the same high quality.

Their exterior oils were very good especially for redgum as it not only protected the wood from the elements but had the ability to heal/close cracks which in outdoor red gum can be a major problem.

As I said I've hade nothing to do with them for well over 10 years and have never used the oil you referred to but I would reckon you'd have to go a long way to get something better.

Whatever you do, make sure you get a copy of their information sheet(s) and make sure you follow their usage instructions to the letter. They did a lot of work and experiments in the early days to make sure that their products worked as described and all the important guff from those tests etc was put into their Info Sheets.

Shellawax (https://shop.ubeaut.com.au/product/shellawax/) over their burnishing oil on woodturned items.
