Resin finish

Yesterday my wife took me to a place that makes wood furniture, and many many other bits and pieces.

For those who live in the Auckland or Waikato regions the business can be found about halfway between Auckland and Hamilton. For those of you intending a Xmas visit from far off lands , its about an hours drive south of Auckland on the main state highway. Rangiriri Hand Made is the name of the business

They had a number of truly beautiful Swamp Kauri coffee & occasional tables made up from local Kauri logs.

The finish used on them is a two pot epoxy resin. The finish is awesome to say the least. Stan the chap who owns the business was telling me that the only trouble he had was the odd bubble that required a good heat gun to smooth out prior to hardening.

When finished the tables look like those found here (http://www.kauricraft.co.nz/).

So it go me thinking...does anyone else use this type of finish, how hard is it to apply and what would be the best or suitable brands of epoxy and what sort of working conditions are required.

I forgot to ask him all this as we were talking about how much he wanted for the business as he is looking to sell and we may be looking to buy.

The business does a roaring trade all year round so looks like a good opportunity, to change the lifestyle.

But what he told you is slightly wrong, a heat gun wont work, has to be a butane torch, that produces carbon whatever to get rid of the bubbles.
The best way to avoid bubbles it to give the piece you are doing, a good sanding sealer coat first.
