Does anyone have one of the new Nokia 8110 slider phones? I’m considering replacing my Nokia 3110 with one as I can also use it as a WIFI hotspot for my tablet. My phone plan keeps accumulating data that I don’t use and I hate wasting anything, even virtual electrons.
I have a rare allergy to smartphones that causes me to violently jump up and down on them and hurl them screaming into the nearest paddock so I’m afraid I have to stick to ones with buttons. I’ve always had Nokias and don’t want to change but the 3110 has a couple of idiosyncrasies that urinate me off, I’d be interested in knowing if they also appear on the 8110.

I'm intrigued to know where you're still buying new Nokias from? I tried to buy one 3 or so years ago and was told then they hadn't been made in years.

They came back into the market over 2 years ago; you must have just missed them; or possibly the phone dealer wanted you to buy one of his wares instead ? Big W, JB HIFI, Dick Smith and Hardly Normal all have them. RRP $129 for the 8110; about $90 for the 3310 (https://www.nokia.com/phones/en_int/nokia-3310) (my current Nokia; bought about two years ago and still sold now at the same places as the 8110).
When smartphones hit the market they decided to go into partnership with Microsoft and produce their own platform to rival Android and IOS; it was by all accounts rubbish and effectively killed the phone side of the company. The phones are now made by HMD and the smart ones use Android. No idea what system the feature phones use as I don't bother connecting to the Interweb with mine.
Probably the best thing about still using a phone with buttons is the phenomenal battery life although this does degrade over time;my 3310 now needs a top-up charge every single month...

I'll have to look into that. This current smart phone I have will usually need atleast 1 charge per 24 hrs depending on how much use.

There was a tiny bit of urine extraction with my statement; but I generally only have to charge my Nokia once a week. My usage is mainly text messaging with about an hour or two worth of telephone talking a week.
It also fits in every pocket I own and happily survives being dropped. They're robust as hell.
If however you like Instabookface-chirping, playing Lolly-Squash/Annoyed Avians or Yoochoobing then these are definitely NOT for you. I only ever use mine as a telephone, a 2-way pager and an occasional alarm clock.
